Help ME be Evil

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

I didn't want to hijack that other guy's topic, but I have a character I've just started playing, and I put LE on his sheet. I'm not sure he's really coming off that way. So I'd like some thoughts on developing his evil.

My character is a kitsune monk (maneuver master) who read a forbidden demon scroll, which tainted him (thus he's actually an oni-tiefling).

He's arrogant, enjoys exercising control over opponents and making fools of them all.
His personal code of honor prevents him from killing, except those that have already tried to kill him. Even then, he's not very bloodthirsty.

My current plan for him is an interest in everything occult, artifacts and rituals fueled by dark powers. His soul is already tainted, so in for a penny, in for a pound.

Is that Evil? I'm a little worried that there may not be any such dealing with devils opportunities in the game, so he'll just come off as kind of a jerk to people that he has no use for.

Just play your character and ignore alignment.

That's what I usually do though.

I want to play up his demon-taint, I'm just not sure how.

You don't have to be violent to be evil; think of the many corporate executives who make decisions that ruin thousands of lives, but who have never lifted a fist in anger themselves.

A big component of evil is deciding that you and only you matter--that anyone who interferes with your best interests deserves to suffer, or even die. You don't have to kill them yourself--you just need the mindset that "the person opposing me is opposing the Will of the Universe, the law that I must always succeed, and is therefore a threat to all that is right and just... in fact, they're not really a person at all, just another obstacle that must be overcome." The Lawful variety of evil decides that the best way for the world to operate is for you to be in charge, or at least for you to achieve all your personal goals (wealth, influence, knowledge, whatever)... and to plan accordingly to make that happen. Society exists to serve you and provide you with resources, which you deserve because you're obviously superior.

And remember that no one else's interests, welfare, or even suffering matter. They're not you, so they don't count. THAT's some high-quality evil right there.
