Figher damage question per RAW

Rules Questions

I am DMing a ROTRL game and I have a fighter in the group that according to hero lab should be doing 20 damage per hit at level 8. She scored a critical on one of her attacks yesterday with her long sword and landed 2 other attacks(she was hasted) so the strength damage alone was 100 points. When that was announced the game came to a screaching hault and some of the other party members wanted to know how that was possible.

I don't doubt that it was possible but I wasn't quite able to justify it when questioned. She has a 20 strength, was weilding it both handed, is a straight fighter(no archatype), and has Power Attack and Weapon Spealization. Oh and she was using a +1 keen longsword.

Can someone check the math and see what damage output she should be reaching?

Grand Lodge

Did you have her spell out the damage element by element? That's what I do when a question comes up.

What level are they? What's her BAB?

The damage calculation (at fighter level 8 as per the original post) would be:

1d8 (base longsword)
+1 (magic enhancement)
+7 (STR modifier of 5 * 1,5 for two-handed)
+1 (weapon training 1)
+2 (weapon specialization)
+9 (power attack with weapon wielded in two hands)

For a total of 1d8+20 per attack.

On a critical hit, the attack would instead deal 2d8+40.

9 for PA + 7 for str + 2 for WS +1 for (+1 weapon)+1 for WT + d8 = 21 min 28 max. min crit 42 max crit 56. Set damage for round as described min 84 max 112. Possible, about average. Unless there is more spells or feats on them.

Or items like Gloves of Dueling.

Thanks I knew it was possible...I felt like I was loosing my mind yesterday lol.

Follow-up: Hitting on 3 attacks, where one is a critical hit, would give a total damage output of 4d8+80.

I'm not sure how you got to 100 non-dice damage as the original post suggests, but 100 damage in total is certainly plausible (the average would be 98).

Minimum damage 21, maximum 28, average with 1 critical, 98

Over-mathed brain right now making lvl 20 characters. Sorry have corrected original post.

Hmm...your right...

Well its times like these that make my degree in Mathematics very sad lol.

Definitely possible. Give the lady a scythe and a rapier-wielding follower with Butterfly Sting and see how that turns out.

Or just go gunslinger. : D
