Pairagon surge question

Lantern Lodge

Really quick question:

When using a wand of Paragon Surge, can any race gain the benefits of the spell if:

They make the DC 25 imitate race check
They make the DC 20 wand use check

Will this work?

Yes, if you're willing to spend 225gp a pop for a 5 min feat that you have to qualify for. A half-elf with the spell would have to make it though, and some DMs might not let you just stop at the local magic shop and pick one up.

I'm not sure if this would actually work.

The DC25 Imitate Race check would be for an item that only activates for a specific race.

The Wand would require a DC 20 wand use check, assuming you don't have it in your spell book/spells known. So lets say you make the check and can use the wand. The wand would be able to be used by any race to cast the spell, but if they cast it on anyone who is not a Half Elf, the spell would have no effect.

You aren't making the imitate race check for the spell being cast from the wand, the imitate race check (DC 25) is being used to qualify for using a magic item that requires a certain race. (i.e. Rod of Dwarven Might)

at least, that is how I see it.

Only Half-elves may benefit from this spell.

No, Use Magic Device will let you emulate being a half-elf to activate the spell, however it will not let you emulate half-elf to receive the effect of it. If you want to benefit from Paragon Surge you need to be half-elf or have a way to get to Racial Heritage.

Cool, thanks guys!

Trying to get this to work possibly with a magus... but eh, probably won't work.
