What to do when source materials contradict each other?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Example:

In Ultimate Combat, Dry Load cartridges can be bought for +30gp/cartridge (or +1500 for 50 cartridges).

However, in Ultimate Equipment, it appears that this is just a "normal" enchantment (the +30/round is not called out). This makes it seem like you need to buy them in lots of 50, and that you cannot buy them without the cartridges being at least +1 (since there is no exception stated).

For PFS, how do I resolve this sort of apparent contradiction?

I admit freely that this may need to be on the Rules Discussion... because this may be something that needs to be answered by the Developers rather than the Campaign staff?

Either way, I thank you all for your time.

Rule of thumb is to use the newer source.

Silver Crusade 5/5

I would go by the most recently published source

I was thinking that was the common sense way to think about it.

So, based on the above, would you two rule that you have to buy Dry Load cartridges in lots of 50, and that they would require a +1 enchantment first?

If you had already enchanted masterwork paper cartridges to +1 I see no reason why you couldn't just enchant one with Dry Load for +30gp more. It's listed as an option.

As far as I am aware All Weapon/Armor Special Abilities require the Weapon/Armor to be enchanted to a +1 first. So no matter if you can use the UC or UE one the bullet needs to be a +1 Magic Bullet.

As an FYI - that is what I've already expressed in other threads/places, all... that you need to start with a +1 cartridge. Which, of course, has to be done in lots of 50.

There is one significant problem with using the most recent source. One might not own it. It seems rather harsh to say that sonebody has to buy new books to keep using their old ones.

For awhile I was inadvertently using an incorrect version of the Hide Shirt. I used the version in the book I owned (this was while that version was still listed in Additional Resources) so this is hardly just a theoretical problem.

The Exchange

Silbeg,

Over the weekend at a Charcon, I recieved a PFS boon that would let you by +1 or +2 ammo in lots of 10. Since there is a boon sheet that allows for a special lot size, I would expect that without the boon you would need to buy the +1 cartridges in lots of 50 as a standard size lot.

Wow, gman! Haven't even found a scenario where there WAS a gunslinger. That is interesting!

But, no, please don't tell me which scenario... I'll find it when I run into it!

(but, if I run into it, I'll be buying some ammo :))

Dark Archive 4/5

It's not a scenario, it's a convention boon. No spoilers required.

Oh, convention boon.

Guess I'll have to wait.

It is really difficult to put a gunslinger in a game, because of the 4x criticals.

There are going to be critical one shots, and that is just the nature of the weapon, same with the scythe, and to a lesser extent, the battle axe.

PCs use the big X weapons way more, from my experience
