Goblin campaign, and I am a Bard

Advice

Alright. So we rolled stats and I rolled CHA high enough that I think I am going to be a bard.

Stats are in order: 8, 16, 14, 8, 13, 15 (these includes racial mods and extra point buy)

We are all evil goblins.

Question is, what type of build should I go. I've never been a bard before. I've heard that straight bard is the best, but what kind of other builds have people done before?

Thanks for your suggestions!

What is the rest of the party doing? Which type of bard is best in part depends on what they're doing.

Clearly Gobllin Geisha Bard!

Actually I don't know what would be the best. I really like the Arcane Duelist but your abysmal strength score makes that almost impossible. Maybe just play a basic bard and focus on support duties. I guess you can't swap strength and wisdom? That would open up many different build paths.

I would see if you're allowed the prankster archetype. Very fitting.

Default Bard is best Bard, simply because the strength of Bards lies in their versatility. That being said:

  • Don't pick any archetype that trades in Inspire Courage. +1 to everyone's attacks beats almost anything else you might get.
  • Savage Skald could be fun, though oddly heroic for a Goblin.
  • And speaking of going against the stereotype: the Pageant of the Peacock masterpiece would be interesting, especially when combined with Versatile Performance.

The Exchange

Savage Skald or Archivist,....I love the Archivist. Yours would look a whole lot different than mine without all those Horizon Walker levels too.
(me and Piazza game together).

The composition right now is:

Rogue
Witch
Druid
Alchemist

We have another two or three players that have to choose a class.

I just noticed this is an "evil only" party.

I was going to suggest the Dawnflower Dervish.

I am assuming that is for good only? lol

Is the druid a heavily melee druid, or have a melee AC? Seems like you're missing a tank.

The party's Evil- or Neutral-only. However, a licktoad goblin in a party with a necromancer is not going to be a worshiper of Sarenrae.

The party is: Feral Gnasher barb, necromancer cleric, probable-druid, probable-thug rogue, usually absent bomb alchemist, and witch.

Savage Skald would be very fitting for goblins, since they're big fans of nasty creepy songs. (I already have some plans for rewarding PCs who come up with their own songs.) The ability to force others into rage could be pretty nifty, too. (And it would be funny if the bard made the barbarian rage, since the barbarian is planning on making the druid's turtle rage... hah.)

Is there a way to allow his bardic performances to affect mindless undead? The party will have one player making undead, and at least one more with the spell Command Undead.

Well, no, but a worshiper of Sarenrae, a NG deity is required.

So, neutral is fine.

The ability to nab Dervish Dance at first level, without prerequisites, is a big boon to such a high dex PC.
