I just sent in three items.

I enjoyed writing them up, even if they aren't selected. Are you planning on doing more of this kind of solicitation in the future?

That is correct, Jesper.

One more question, please: Do you think you'll accept magic items that involve the Downtime or Kingdom Builder rules from Ultimate Campaign? Or should focus be on "normal" items?

I am thinking about items that have an impact on performing downtime activities or running/building a kingdom or an army? :-)

Marie gets final say, but I will hazard a guess until she answers. I'm going to guess a no on kingdom building and mass combat items since the ap does not appear to describe any kingdom building or mass combat encounters.

Dale is right. Those style of items call for a different product than what I'm envisioning for this. Our goal is to create something that provides additional support to the AP as seamlessly as possible, and "general" items meet that goal best given this AP's focus on Indiana Jones'-style world-saving. (At least that's how it strikes me ;) )

Since we're talking about general ideas and nothing specific as yet, might I suggest you develop these ideas for RPG Superstar? :)

At least one item fully written and a solid list of ideas for more. Looks like I will be submitting for this one too.

Five items are all but done. I want to give them all one more read and then plan to submit tomorrow.

You're welcome, Jesper. And good luck. :)

Looking forward to seeing them, Jacob-ses [Is that even the plural of Jacob?]. ;)

Just a friendly reminder...

With Thanksgiving this week for those of us in the States, don't forget JBE's open call ends 11/30/13.

May your holiday be filled with good food, good drink, and great company. :)

Another friendly reminder from the folks at JBE.

Our open call ends 11:59 pm on 11/30/13 (Mountain Standard Time/GMT-7).

Not sending another submission. Those which I already sent must suffice...

There's always room for one more submission, just like jello.

Then you'll be happy to hear I just sent in two items. If by some miracle I get some free time tomorrow before the deadline, more may follow.

Seven items submitted and fingers crossed! ;-)

P.S. I noticed that the font from your template gets converted to ariel when items are copy-pasted into an e-mail, even with HTML settings. Hope this is not a problem?

Well, they specifically asked the submission to be in the body of the text so it better shouldn't be a problem.

And sent!
Jesper, I'm looking at a (freshly downloaded)template file now, and it seems to be in Arial even in Word. Is that not the case on your end? (And that's how I just sent mine in, so hopefully that's not an issue regardless.)
And a question for Marie: while doublechecking all the info on the open call page last night, I noticed that the standard 'all submissions become property of JBE' disclaimer text that I've come to expect from these things wasn't to be found. Am I missing it, or does that not apply this time? And if so, does that mean any rejected submissions are placed back into our hands for whatever future purposes we might have for them?

Hi DankeSean!

It is a bit weird. The template _says_ Arial but the all-capital lines looked like they were something else. At least, I was unable to reproduce them except by copy-pasting within my Word document.

And then when that text was copied to the mail, the all-capital-letters lines became formatted to normal text? Not sure what the bug is?

No worries on the fonts, folks. The Big Question is "Does the item follow the template structure?" The submissions are coming directly to me, and everything that has come in looks good on that score. :)

My guess is that whatever your email font default is, that's what the text is converted to. That's how my gmail works, anyway.

A quick note on a slightly different subject. I have to travel out of state early in the morning, so I won't be online until probably Sunday evening/Monday morning MST. I'll be back on the 11th. I'm packing my computer to take with me. I'll try to check in on my husband's computer this evening and tomorrow before I leave; since he works from home on it, I make no promises. This will have no effect on the 12/31/13 notification deadline for those items that have made it and those that haven't. (I plan on having all those done by the 15th, but don't hold me to it. ;) )

Thank you to everyone who submitted an item (or several). They are under review now.

Well, you can unofficially start worrying any time you want, but I recommend waiting.

Twelve days?

Finalizing selections now, folks. I will post in this thread after emails have gone out.

I was in NM the first ten days of December taking care of my mom after surgery. My hopes that I would have time to review items and make decisions was decidedly misplaced. Thank you all for your patience. :)

No worries Marie, we weren't expecting anything for a couple of weeks and besides, family first.

Well wishes to your mother.

It's not like we take our submissions back if you will have to delay making decisions about them... :P

Thank you both - Mom is doing well.

I wanted to respond so y'all knew how much to start worrying if you're so inclined. ;)

Bumping the thread.

Seven more days.

Your wait is over! Final item selection wrapped up tonight. Emails will go out to all who submitted an item (or more) for consideration tonight and tomorrow. Contracts will follow shortly thereafter for those who were selected. The contract may get to you before my email notification does because Dale is handling them. If you've heard nothing by Tuesday morning, please message me.

Thank you for your interest, participation and patience. Y'all didn't exactly make it easy on me. ;) [Thank you for that, btw]

My target date to have this wrapped up and released is the beginning of February. This date is subject to final approval by Dale so don't quote me on that.

Have a very Happy New Year! Stay safe and game on. :)

Woo Hoo,
Thank you Marie & Pharaoh :)

Awesome. Marie, thanks for all your efforts as well! If I may ask, what's the status of items not selected for inclusion? Are they property of JBE by virtue of having been submitted, or are we free to use them in future potential writing gigs elsewhere?

Thank you, Marie!

I'd like to second DankeSean's question about the status of rejected items? :-)

Thanks for having the open call and wading through all the submissions.

The rights to any items not chosen revert to the authors. You can do with them what you wish. :)

It was my pleasure. Seriously. :D

This process also gave me an increased appreciation for the RPGSS judges' job. ;)

Were there any terrible submissions that you immediately threw away? (no names asked)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Thanks; it was a lot of fun and I appreciate the consideration.

I hope you'll do this again should Paizo release, say, a sci-fi-esque adventure path (that'll be an interesting one, trying to figure out the right line to tread) and then for whatever comes after that.

To answer your question, Drejk. Some items were better than others, some would take more editing than others to make them shine, etc. I wouldn't call any "bad". Everyone who submitted an item really did make it difficult to choose. :)

Motteditor, we have kicked around the idea of doing something like this periodically. The particulars...Well, none as of yet, and even if there were - Mum's the word. ;)

If you do more open calls in the future, it would be great if you emailed the announcement to all who have submitted to past ones. I didn't find out about this one until fairly far along, but did have time to submit. I'd hate to miss out on future ones.

I'll bring that up with the others, Joel.

Bear in mind, there are less than a handful of us so it may not be logistically feasible. There may be other considerations I'm not thinking of off the top of my head, as well.

I think one of my items made the cover, maybe even two ;>

Coolness

None of mine, though...
