There is no "I" in "Party"

The first reader requested entry from the gaming blog Improved Initiative, this one deals with how to avoid those situations where no one knows what the hell to do when the initiative order is decided.

Combat is (or at least usually is) one of the more exciting parts of any roleplaying game. But it's also one of the easiest places to lose focus, to mess up your math, and to get frustrated with. If parties on the whole can avoid some of these very easy traps, and take a few of these simple suggestions to heart, chances are that they'll be able to fight smarter instead of harder.

There are several i's in Pinkie Pie though! Or are we talking about a different kind of party?

I find that the best trick to working as a team is to not be stupid and/or a jerk. From there, everything else follows naturally. That link is a good guide on how everyone else can deal with the aforementioned...

Well, sometimes, you need an A-hole to get things done. Good Cop/Bad Cop anyone? Two high Cha characters, one highly trained in Diplomacy and Bluff while the other focuses on Intimidate and Use Magic Device.

I actually had that very combination Kazaan. A half-elf and his partner, a half orc. An abjurer and a cleric, both of them were specialized in playing off each other to interrogate witnesses and criminals. This is why Leadership is a great feat to have.

There may not be an I in team or an I in party

But there's definitely an I in 'Split the party'
