Charging through enemies

Rules Questions

A Couple of questions about how this feat works.

I am a Cavalier, and currently have a charger (Archtype) mount.
will kind of draw this out.

MM
MMF................T

M (Mount)
F (Fool)
T (Target)

My mount has charge through, Can I charge the target, while overrunning the fool.

I'll allow it.

But if you fail, your "charge" ends in the space just before the fool. I would say this uses up at least your mounts move action for the round so that you can at very least backhand the fool.

I want to say you need at least 10ft between the mount and the fool to start the charge, but I do not find any reference to this, so it looks like it is not needed.

I don't think you need 10' between your mount and the fool, either. Since you're performing an overrun on the fool (and an overrun can be done without charging), it should still work starting right next to the fool. You wouldn't get any charge bonus to the overrun, but I'm not sure you should get that even if you were charging, anyway.

That should be fine. If you end your turn in a bad square, just bump back to the most recent legal square.

Thank you.

Our DM allowed it (After a debate), as the rules didn't state that the overrun attempt needed the charge.

He was trying to prevent me from charging a mage in the back ranks, and didn't expect me to have the charge through feat.

He did rule that the fool got an attack of opportunity if he wasn't knocked prone.

By RAW the target of your overrun doesn't get an aoo since you have imp. Overrun as the prereq for charge through. And you don't need any run-up space to overrun with charge through. You also do not get the +2 bonus on a charge through target even if you do have separation because the bonus listed under the charge rules apply only to the target of your charge.

Additionally (and again this is by RAW) you really don't need to knock the target prone.. just moving through their space is enough to satisfy the requirements of the charge. As an ealier poster said, however, if you fail to move through the target then your charge also fails.

Malkov, the problem is that my mount is the one with the charge through, and it gets that without having the prereq of improved overrun.
It is because of this that he ruled that the overrunned target got an Attack of opportunity. I didn't dispute that part. :)

Charger Archtype, Animal Archive pg 20.

Animal Feats: In addition to the standard animal companion feats, a charger may select Charge Through APG,Greater Overrun, Improved Great Fortitude, and Improved Iron Will.

Edit, I cannot figure out how to bold things.
