Barbarian defense

Advice

Shadow Lodge

My Barbarian just hit level 12, and I'm looking to play him in Eyes of the Ten (PFS level 12 scenarios). As of right now, my primary concern is his lack of defense (stats below). I'm looking for advice on how to boost this. I'm half tempted to just go armor-less and just rely on my HP and healing.

Spoiler:

Hit Points: 179 / 227 Raging
AC: 19 (6 armor, 2 Dex, 1 deflection) / 14 Raging
Important items: +2 Chain Shirt, Ring of Protection +1, Belt of Str +2, Amulet of Mighty Fists
Important class info: Invulnerable Rager (DR6/-), Come and Get Me rage power, Raging Vitality feat
27148 gold after selling +2 Chain Shirt and Ring of Protection +1

Possible AC
+4 Mithral Breastplate
Belt of Physical Might (Str / Dex)
AC: 23 (10 Armor, 3 Dex) / 18 Raging
598 gold remaining

Beast totem is good for the natural armor.

If you aren't an Invulnerable Rager be sure you pick up Extra DR. In fact, if you ARE an invulnerable rager be sure you pick up improved DR.

And look into Come And Get Me barbarian, it's a great defensive build.

I forgot to mention I am an Invulnerable Rager, and I have CAGM.

AC doesn't matter. Bump your HP as high as you can and get some more DR and just accept that you're going to bleed a lot.

AC 23 vs AC 19 at level 12 is about the same thing. Get a belt of STR/CON instead of Str/Dex.

Consider an Amulet of Natural Armor and/or Beast Totem.

This was my line of though too. I'm thinking of just dropping the armor and getting more offense. I have an Ioun Stone of CON. I have fiend totem and an Amulet of Mighty Fists, which I'd like to keep. I'm going Dex belt because I need more AOO's for CAGM.

Pick up Dazing Assault. Ideally you CAGM, they try and whack you, you daze them, and you never eat a hit ever.

Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier and Ring of Protection also increase your AC. If your going natural attacks you should already have the full beast totem and a Helm of the Mammoth Lord though. Speaking of CAGM, have you taken dazing assault yet to keep them from landing blows? Remember you can always be healed after combat, so a bulk of HP and DR can help quiet a bit.

Largely true - CR 15 monsters that use natural attacks are going to auto-hit except on 1's. Against other foes the additional investment in AC will cut down on the number of iterative attacks that hit you. For about the amount as you'd spend on the mithril breastplate +4 you could pick up a cloak of minor displacement and get a flat 20% miss rate.

Dazing Assault seems like a good choice to pick up at 13th level. I'm not going Natural Attacks, I just have them for some extra damage. Currently I use a +1 Holy Vicious Greatsword with Improved Crit.

I'm not sure I want to go Cloak of Displacement as that will hurt my saves.

At 11th I would've gotten dazing assault, and at 13th get raging brutality. Use that increased con bonus to your advantage and deal some more damage. As well as taking advantage of your improved crit weapon.
