Leopard attacking mounted characters

Rules Questions

Is there anything in RAW stating leopards cannot attack mounted people?
Perhaps they might require a jump check? What does RAW say on the matter? If nothing, then I take it they CAN?

The rider essentially takes up all the squares his/her mount does, and can attack from any of those squares. A leopard, human, kobold, whatever would have no problem attacking a mounted character.

Weird question, especially given just how high a leopard can jump.

This reminds me of that video of the tiger leaping out of the grass to attack the person riding an elephant.

Just need a ruling to show a GM. So, he can attack the rider without ANY additional checks?

Yes, but the rider may want to make a Ride check for the chance to get cover from his mount against that attack. See the Ride skill rules for details, as well as the section about cover in the combat chapter.

Ahh... because as a master summoner I get a leopard, charge aguy to get 5 attacks, get 1 off, GM makes me attack horse or nake some check. I figure ill keep going after horse dies. 1st kills it, gm makes enemy fall off in a square away from me. Enemy is now 10ft away and unhittable. So I wanna show dm he was wrong.

GM was reaching. Sounds like (s)he miscalculated and didn't want you to finish that fight so quickly.

If the GM insists on it as a house rule, remind him that you can summon a mount too. : D

Well, it was a fight between two players, where we were just testing stuff. I lost, but I think I woulda won if he took those 4 more attacks. So I think the GM just ruled in favor of them w /o raw to support it.
1 ) so it seems cat CAN attack the person on a horse no problem?
2) what about the person landing? How is that picked?

1) Yes.
2) Since the mount is fallen at that point, by default the player would just occupy the same space he was in. (The fallen mount may be considered an obstacle or difficult terrain per GM discretion.) If the mount was not helpless (e.g., tripped instead of killed), the rules don't say where you land so long as it's in a different grid square. So, GM's job.

Renen, first of all. As already stated the person on a Mount is considered to occupy all of the spaces that his mount does.

A horse (not a pony) is a Large creature and thus takes up a space 10 feet (2 squares) across. For simplicity, assume that you share your mount’s space during combat.

Second, even if the rider is 10' up, that is still within reach of a leopard since the leopard has a 5' reach.

Here is a side view for you:

Here is the top down view:

R is the Rider (and his Mount)
L is the Leopard.

Each letter is equal to 5'. The Leopard is within reach of the Rider even if the GM states the Rider is only the top section of the mount.

Finally, if he wants to house-rule that the Rider is really 5' above the mount ask where the rider's legs are. :)

But I'm five feet off the ground!"

My cat can jump 5ft, leopard will easy do it to the rider.

Consider what would happen, if a GM were to rule that a rider couldn't reach any targets at ground level, because they're too far away.

The players of mounted characters would have a fit.

He can attack the mount or the rider as they both share the same space.

I believe there is a mounted ability that forces you to attack the mount (or grants the rider cover from the mount) and if the mount dies or the rider dismounts he can go to any adjacent square. So it may be that he is right.
