Gunslingers: Wyrm Sniper and Musket Master confusion

Rules Questions

I apologize if this has been asked already, though I recently skimmed through a copy of the Dragonslayer's Handbook and saw the Wyrm Sniper archetype. Is it possible to use both them and the Musket Master archetype at the same time? The reason I ask is because of the Heavy Gunner and Musket Training abilities.

Musket Training is a full replacement for Gun Training, but Heavy Gunner doesn't make a mention of if it modifies or replaces Gun Training.

Reading it it apears to add the ability to select siege weapons for fun training. Which the musket master then can't make use of because he no longer has gun training.

Looks pretty strongly like a modification of gun training.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Although the Wyrm Sniper Heavy Gunner ability doesn't include the specific line, "This modifies the Gun Training class feature", the text of the ability makes it obvious that it is modifying Gun Training - and therefore you couldn't stack them because Musket Master loses Gun Training.

This seems one of those times where, even if you could combine the archetypes by RAW, it would do you no good.

Starting at 5th level, a wyrm sniper may select one specific type of light siege weapon (such as a ballista or light bombard) in place of a specific type of firearm as part of her gun training class ability.

So even if you argued RAW that they could be combined, you don't have Gun Training, so you can't select a siege weapon for Gun Training. No gain.

Thanks for the clarification =)
