Uses of flanking, other than Sneak Attack

Advice

My friend and I want to make characters with a cool/potent combo ability. We were looking at Ratfolk's Swarming and rather like it. But I'd rather not have BOTH of us be sneak attackers. Is there any other class feature / ability / shtick that benefits heavily from flanking, like sneak attack does?

We're already looking at Outflank and Precise Strike teamwork feats. Besides those.

A simple +2 to attack is nice when you accept an attack penalty for power attack or two weapon fighting.

Both of you could have animal companions (vermin ones for that swarming flavor), and you could surround enemies, tear them to shreds, and move on.

Power Attack is not likely happening on a race w/ a strength penalty, and TWF is awful w/o a big source of bonus damage...like sneak attack.

And having companions to actual-flank with makes the whole point of being a pair of ratfolk for flanking kind of self-defeating.

I meant with your rat folk. It's just a bigger swarm. Sorry.

Swarming is a racial ability to share a space and count as flanking w/ another ratfolk against enemies you both threaten. In other words, it makes flanking super-easy.

Sorry if you didn't know what I meant.

The Exchange

If it isn't for PFS, someone could take levels in vivisectionist alchemist and gain sneak attack from that, this would let them also do more non-rogue things... the infusion discovery for example. Alternately they could use the discovery levels to get more rogue abilities if they wanted to be more hybrid.

Yeah, it's not PFS.

Given that Ratfolk has perfect Alchemist stats and +1/6 discovery favored class option, I've actually been trying to find a reason for us to not *both* just be Viv. Alchemists. :)

One of us at least definitely will be.

You could also look in to one of you doing a feint based build.

Well, you could do a menacing weapon to add another +2 bonus. With that and outflank you make your attacks at +6, so anything that can take advantage of a very high attack bonus.

How about Combat Manuvers? You could have some sort of a trip build or something.

I was thinking of us both having Tandem Trip, but I don't think that'd work out so well for small characters, and I'd feel bad forcing him to take a teamwork feat he can't really use just to fuel my tripping. Maybe...

You should both take the Outflank feat, since you'll always be flanking.

Dark Archive

Rather than Power Attack, look into Piranha Strike. That would let you keep your Strength stat down.

Maybe an inquisitor? That way you could take teamwork feats and he would be fine just focusing on flanking with you.
