The tallest human on record was one inch below 9 feet tall, but he was barely able to stand, and required leg braces to walk.
His shoe size was 37AA.

Well, there is large, then there is large long, and then there is large tall... From there, I would say that 7-9 ft is medium tall while a dwarf is medium short at 4ft. Combat bonuses? Not so much, unless you wanted to have a feat chain or background feat the grants reach (m tall), or bonuses to stealth and acrobatics (m short). Evolve the chain to grant the bonuses of the next size cat (up or down) without the penalties.

I've always understood Large size to start at 8 feet.
The PFSRD has a graphic that is loosely based on the rules of previous editions.

How tall can a humanoid or monstrous humanoid be without being a giant?
Hill Giants are 10 ft tall...so 9 ft tall?
Thanks.
Humanoid(giant) is a creature type. You can have colosal creatures witout them being (giant). Just as humanoid (dwarf) or (elf) is about heritage, so is (giant). There is monstrous humanoids in most sizes i think.
So in short. As big as you want them:)Edit: fr spelling and ease of reading.

If a mutant elf is large size, NPCs will start calling them a pointy eared oger. If huge, (kicks in at 10th level) they are referred to as a giant elf. When they reach 20th level, they become THE gargantuan elf. Possibly they gain the repression ability at 5th level letting them shrink to normal size (for a nat.) but they have to make a will save to stay small in combat. "Maybe we should move this combat to the cavern."
