Pathfinder Society: I messed up and need to revise stuff!

Okay, so I went to my first game today, was a blast, but I have a question that is probably answered clearly elsewhere but I was just a bit too inept to find.

My question is "What books are allowed for your char. without buying them?"

I know it says that you don't have to prove ownership, you just have to bring the materials, and it requires a watermark, or at least that's what the website said but our GM said I must bring the materials with MY watermark on it ( proof I bought it ) rather than that of a friend or buddy who owns the pdf. That's fine, but as with many, I'm not made of infinite cash and because I'm just beginning I don't want to invest a lot into it quite yet.

I think the books you can use upfront are the CRB and APG without buying them. To be honest I don't know what books to "invest" in. I heard SoS for the ioun stones and that's fine but I'd prefer NOT to invest in books that have one or two feats or pieces of gear.

First, you need to ask this in the PFS forum.

Second, you or somebody you cohabitate with needs to own the PDF. Not a random buddy. The physical book you can lend.

Third, absolutely nothing over and above the Core Rulebook is required. You can build very good characters with just that.

You can look at either the srd or prd to see what else is available and then buy the books that most interest you

That said the Advanced Players Guide (which you need to own) has the most new material and almost any character will find something of interest.

After that, it really depends on the character.

I. Am. So. Sorry.

I didn't mean to ask here.

As long as it's within the first hour, you can actually delete your post FYI.

I'd repost this (or wait for it to be flagged as being in the wrong forum) in the PFS forum and you'll get much better info

Oh, and welcome to the message boards!!! :)

Or flag it yourself and mark wrong forum. =)

The core rulebook is part of the core assumption that every player is assumed to have. If you limit yourself to options from that, you generally won't have a GM bother you about showing ownership of the source. (Although you will be expected to get it eventually, and it's a god idea to do so because it's exceptionally useful, go figure :P ) Anything else will require you to have the source either as a watermarked PDF, printout of the PDF or a book. (And I've always understood that the watermark needs to either be yours or a member of your household.)

There is a free supplement providing traits available at http://paizo.com/download/pathfinder/CharacterTraits.zip That is a legal additional resource for the traits so you don't need the APG just to make a legal character with two traits.

I would suggest downloading the free Guide to Organized Play. (http://paizo.com/products/btpy84k4) It explains how Pathfinder Society works, as well as explaining the factions (and offering a couple potential traits for each faction.)

I followed all of your advice! Thank you very much!
