Feat to allow lower level spell mem for higher spell slot

Advice

Hi, I seem to remember seeing in 3.5, I think, a feat that allowed you to memorize lower level spells in place of higher level spell slots for a prepared castor. It may have been some special ability in pathfinder, but I thought it was a feat in 3.5. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

No Feat Required:

"Arcane Spells

Wizards, sorcerers, and bards cast arcane spells. Compared to divine spells, arcane spells are more likely to produce dramatic results.

Spell Slots: The various character class tables show how many spells of each level a character can cast per day. These openings for daily spells are called spell slots. A spellcaster always has the option to fill a higher-level spell slot with a lower-level spell. A spellcaster who lacks a high enough ability score to cast spells that would otherwise be his due still gets the slots but must fill them with spells of lower levels."

One can already prepare lower level spells in higher level slots, but that's a 1 for 1.

There was a spell in v3.5 called Mnemonic Enhancer. One way to use it allowed you to prepare 3 levels worth of spells in the 4th level slot used by the enhancer. So by using up a 4th level slot, you could get 3 first level spells or a 2 and a 1.

Thanks! Mnemonic enhancer was a spell I used for my wizard often. Thanks for the reminder, and the 1-1 relationship will work for me.

There is also a 6th level spell called Mordenkainen's Lucubration (prior to inclusion in OGL) which allows the recall of any single spell 5th level or lower.

Mage’s Lucubration

Transmutation
Level: Wiz 6
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Instantaneous

You instantly recall any one spell of 5th level or lower that you have used during the past 24 hours. The spell must have been actually cast during that period. The recalled spell is stored in your mind as through prepared in the normal fashion.

If the recalled spell requires material components, you must provide them. The recovered spell is not usable until the material components are available.

Its a pathfinder spell also, prd

That'll teach me not to skim so fast.

So's Mnemonic Enhancer

the feat you're thinking of is heighten spell... it lets you not only prepare the spell in a higher slot (which you've seen you can do for free), but cast it as if it were that level (thus raising the DC).

edit: for example- if you prepare fireball normally its DC is 13+Int mod; if you prepare it in an available 5th level slot its DC is still 13+Int mod (cause its still a 3rd level spell, you're just burning a higher level slot for it); with heighten you can prepare fireball as a 5th level spell (in a 5th level slot), thus raising its DC to 15+Int mod.
