Does spell resistance apply against spells that say "Spell Resistance yes (harmless)"?

(Assuming the recipient wants it to work and has not lowered his SR.)

After reading the rules in the Magic Chapter, it doesn't looks like it would. So then I must ask, why does everyone say SR is a bad thing to have?

Lantern Lodge

If I'm not wrong Spell Resistance kicks in vs any spell that is affected by Spell Resistance.

So yes SR applies even against harmless. There is nothing in the SR or harmless entry that says SR don't affect harmless spells.

So yes SR applies even against harmless. There is nothing in the SR or harmless entry that says SR don't affect harmless spells.

SR Excerpt: The terms “object” and “harmless” mean the same thing for spell resistance as they do for saving throws.

Save excerpt: (harmless): The spell is usually beneficial, not harmful, but a targeted creature can attempt a saving throw if it desires.

Doesn't this indicate that a creature can have a harmless spell effect him normally if he desires regardless of active spell resistance?

I see your point... well, best see what the others say.

The Exchange

I find that's what yes usually means.

I don't see any exception to harmless in the pfsrd.

Edit: found your quote. It does seem useless to include that descriptor, but it does say you still need to lower your sr.

The terms “object” and “harmless” mean the same thing for spell resistance as they do for saving throws. A creature with spell resistance must voluntarily lower the resistance (a standard action) in order to be affected by such spells without forcing the caster to make a caster level check.

Grand Lodge

You must still lower your SR since nothing in the harmless text says anything about ignoring SR. In fact the SR part specifically says YES.

The special abilities chapter has more spelling out spell resistence

You can typically suppress SR as a standard action. It reactivates at the beginning of the next turn unless you spend another action. That is why they can have it activate against harmless spells, since it is relatively easy to get around, but creates a price for having SR in the first place.

This is all true....unless you got SR through the superstitious rage power. That has a specific rule preventing suppression. Maybe the fact that they resist spelling comes from their illiteracy in earlier editions? heh.

I'd also say you have to use an action to lower your SR even if it says 'harmless' as far as saving throw.

*Grooooooaaaaan* :)

It feels even worse now that I realize that it was a saving throw rather than SR.

But I suppose that it would prevent you from suppressing SR during a rage, since it is a clear act of wanting to be a "willing target" of a spell. But the concentration needed (I mean, sitting there and thinking about how NOT to use a natural part of your being?) would prevent it while raging anyway.
