Well I know a lot of people consider the game to break down over level x (which varies from 6 to 20). But a fried started a one shot campaign and had us all make level 20 toons.
We need to find the McGuffin to stop an Artifact Ship from plundering a city. Relatively straight forward thugh of course there are other political considerations.
Anyways we get to the entrance to the dungeon... beat up the four wandering monsters.. and now have to figure out how to get in.
By te area we think is the door is writtin in draconic "FEED me".
Linguistics notices that teh FEED is all capitals (it was not given to us told just what we saw or else linguistics might not have been necesary).
While we were considering that we needed to feed it negative energy to open we were still reconoitering. A knowledge check revelaeed that "The Deathlord" whos tomb we were plundering was from a long line of arcane casters, though MOST of them were bards.
From this we deduce that the key to opening it is to play 4 notes F E E D.
Now the party consists of a 20th level eldritch knight, a 20th level lore oracle, a 18th level wizard (Serpent Man), and a 19th level fighter (Drow Noble). After checking all our sheets the only two perform skills are Perform Oratory and Perform Dance (neither of whihc is good for precisly hitting a note.
Solution and what I consider "magical overkill" while my proposed solution of using a 9th level spell "Miracle" to create a pitch pipe. We decided to go with a simpler option and summoned a Trumpet Archon to play the notes....
I love epic stuff :)
