Animal Companions & Gaining them

Advice

I know somebody somewhere will have the quick answer to this, but I can't put my finger on it right now. Can a non-animal companion character class gain an animal companion, through the Leadership feat or anything else?

Scarab Sages

There were two feats in the Faiths and Philosophies book that gave you access to a Ranger list and progression animal companion. I'll find the feats real quick.

Scarab Sages

Pathfinder Player Companion: Faiths & Philosophies

Nature Soul
Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on all Knowledge (nature)
checks and Survival checks.
Animal Ally
Prerequisites: Nature Soul, character level 4th,
Benefit: You gain an animal companion as if you were
a druid of your character level –3 from the following
list: badger, bird, camel, cat (small), dire rat, dog, horse,
pony, snake (viper), or wolf.

Cool, thanks for that Ssalarn, got a barbarian who wants a pet bear...

I don't know if this is an already built character or not, but the Mad Dog Barbarian is pretty cool too.

Eldritch Heritage----> Sylvan Bloodline

Ignore the "people" who say its broken and/or illegal.

But the sylvan "bloodline" is from the wildblooded sorcerer archetype. It's an archetype, not a regular bloodline. I think people are justified in saying that's it doesn't fly.

And even if you allow it, it doesn't even compare to Nature Soul/Animal Ally.

Not only is it not legal, it's 5 levels lower than you.

Just use animal ally

You mean, other than the fact that it isn't legal?

The Sylvan Bloodline is an archetype of the Fey Bloodline that replaces two Bloodline Powers and an arcana. Since you don't have an Arcana to replace (or the second bloodline power) you can't take the archetype.

It IS legal, but that isn't what the thread is about. With that said, it is less optimal than Animal Ally.

You are wrong. You can't take an archetype that replaces class features you don't have.

This exactly ^

the Eldritch heritage gives you the first bloodline power, but taking the Sylvan Archetype for the Fey Bloodline replaces the Arcana and first bloodline power. The Eldritch Heritage feat doesn't give a character an Arcana ability. Even when taking Eldritch Heritage a character would be theoretically taking the Fey bloodline with the Sylvan archetype but they can't because they don't get an arcana to give up so they can't take the Sylvan archetype. Its important to remember that Sylvan is a Fey Bloodline Archetype not its own bloodline.

You can't make a point, say that the point you made isn't related to the thread, and then expect people to not challenge you if they have a different reading.

It's an existent character.
