Minotaur Games Announces Rule Zero: Underlings!

Product Discussion

We all like big combats... but hate the grind that comes with them.

Have you ever want to surround the goblin king with 20 screaming goblin flunkies? How about a fight against a horde of degenerate trolls? Does your lich need an entire phalanx of crypt ghouls? Rule Zero: Underlings will give you the tools you need to add a big fight to your game, without having it bog down to a 4 hour grind. These rules introduce a new type of creature, the underling. Using simple statistics, these monsters are easy to run and simple to dispatch, allowing you to add some big numbers to that important fight.

Rule Zero: Underlings will (hopefully) release next week. For more news, check out the post over at Minotaur Games.

This sounds just like what I need for next week's game session- a way to easily create hordes of lizardfolk. I was going to try to create my own based on the troop rules from Rasputin Must Die, but this could be a lot easier.

Good deal. These rules are inspired by the Minion rules, that appear to be popping up in a number of systems as of late. They are coming together nicely and I am really hoping to release them on Wednesday.

The hordes are unleashed today! Ill post a link when it goes live here at Paizo.

And purchased. Unfortunately, I'm at work for the next six hours but I can't wait to read it when I get home tonight. This sounds like it will save me a lot of work so thank you, Mr. Minotaur! I will try to post a review based on actual play after my 9/14 PF session.

Very happy to see people grabbing this PDF for their games. More good things to come!

I really enjoy the Underling rules; writing up a few notes for some kobold grunts right now actually. And on top of that I absolutely love your Crit Table. Keep it up with the great supplements Minotaur and you will soon be at the top of my 3PP list.

Yes this works very well for me. I have enjoyed it very much.

The timing on this couldn't have been better. Considering recent discussions about the action economy and using large numbers of weaker creatures to drive the action economy in favour of the bad guys to make more challenging encounters, using the underling rules to help achieve that while not making an encounter too difficult is just perfect. My unsuspecting players will no doubt rue the day I bought this!

Making players "rue" things brings a smile to my cold, hateful heart. And doing it with groveling toadies is all the better...

Big thanks go out to Enderrin for the great review. This PDF made its debut here in the #2 spot on the PDFs by other Publishers list. Thanks to everyone who checked it out!

Is there a link to this list of top selling products? Possibly top rated :) I might as well bundle a "few" things together... And there's a lot of stuff to choose from.

Woo HOO! The poor wretched underlings spend another week atop the list of PDFs from other Publishers in the Paizo weekly email! Glad to see everyone liking these pathetic creatures!

I've purchased Underlings and downloaded the Bonus pages.

I can't quite "get" it, however. Can you give me an example of how using Underlings in play will make the GM's job easier? Right now I'm envisioning trading one stat (HP) for two thresholds.

Liberty's Edge

If you have eight underlings, you don't have to keep track of eight sets of HP. You don't have to write anything. When one is killed, it's gone. When one is wounded, throw a counter on the token. If one takes a hit that's less than the threshold, you just ignore the hit.
