Cost of Composite Longbow

Do you need to have a +1 longbow before you can add the adaptive quality to it, or can you upgrade it directly from a masterwork longbow?

e.g. 100 gp (Longbow) + 300 (Masterwork) + 1000 (Adaptive) = 1400 gp

or

100 gp (Longbow) + 300 (Masterwork) + +1 (2000) + 1000 (Adaptive) = 3400 gp

Or for that matter, could you even have an Adaptive Longbow without it being masterworked?

All magic weapons must be masterwork as well. The cost is not included in the others. Thus, your second amount is correct.
