We had a rather funny session stemming from one of our PC's failing a knowledge arcana check early on in the scenario. We were summoned to another plane facing a monster. None of us really knew what it was, but it all tied together when the GM said, "You aren't sure what this creature is, but you are certain that it was the result of Penfold's failed knowledge arcana roll."

Poor Penfold won't live that down. :(

Arcana Knowledge is best Knowledge.

...Until you fall down a 30 ft pit...and face an ungodly monster (not necessarily at the same time).

Would love to GM but it's right in the middle of my final exam weeks :(

Note to the party that I will be playing as a Ranged Fighter.

Persistent Spell Metamagic

Quote:

Benefit: Whenever a creature targeted by a persistent spell or within its area succeeds on its saving throw against the spell, it must make another saving throw against the effect. If a creature fails this second saving throw, it suffers the full effects of the spell, as if it had failed its first saving throw. A persistent spell uses up a spell slot two levels higher than the spell's actual level.

Spells that do not require a saving throw to resist or lessen the spell's effect do not benefit from this feat

Does the Persistent Spell Metamagic persist for the entirety of a spell's duration, in the case of spells that allow for a save per round (to remove an ongoing effect) after failing the initial save?

For example, an enemy who fails the initial save of Glitterdust is blind (or paralyzed if Hold Person). Would their save at their next round to remove blindness/paralysis also be made twice (taking lower) or just once?

When: Saturday, January 4th, 2014 @ 12pm EST
Where: Roll20 + G+ Hangout
Who: PCs can be anywhere between levels 1 and 5, sub-tiers 1-2, and 4-5.
What: A veteran Pathfinder exploring the Fenwall Mountains of Varisia has begun sleepwalking, traveling through the dead of night in the same direction each time. The following mornings, however, he awakens injured and lost in the wilderness, never reaching the mysterious destination that drew him from his bed in the night. Something is calling Kalkamedes, something powerful, but unless he can make it safely to the source of his somnambulism, that power will remain a mystery. It falls to a team of Pathfinders to escort the sleepwalker to his destination and uncover the true nature of the strange phenomenon overtaking Kalkamedes's dreams.

Quote:

Seeing magic for what it really is, the arcanist is able to pull apart magic, ripping the bonds that hold it together and forcing it to obey her will. It is not an easy task, but it allows her to use magic like no other... The arcanist goes from someone who is half wizard, half sorcerer to an arcane spellcaster that focuses on tinkering with the fundamental forces of magic, tearing apart the bonds and forging new ones with its power.

The arcanist will gain access to a wellspring of magic, an arcane reservoir. Calling upon this reservoir, the arcanist can create magic effects. As the arcanist gains levels, she learns new ways to spend this magic (selecting from a large list of features, like a rogue selects rogue talents).

What if the Arcanist can absorb or deflect one spell casted at him (either single-target or area) and deconstruct it into arcane reservoir points for future use (Maybe he gets points based on half the spell level, minimum 1)? Obviously this ability would be limited to number of uses per day (equal to an ability score).

For example, an enemy mage casts chain lightning (a level 6 wiz/sorc spell) at the Arcanist. The Arcanist deconstructs it into 3 (half spell level) "arcane points" that he could use on his next spell - e.g. Use 1 point to increase his next spell's DC, or use 2 points to increase the caster level/duration/range, or 3 points to add a metamagic feat to the next spell.
- If Ice Storm (lv4 spell, Arcanist would gain +2 points); If Acid Arrow (lv2) is cast, Arcanist would gain +1 point.

Just my 2c.

Looks like it'll be low tier, so I may end up testing Bloodrager if I can make a build in the next couple days. Put me down for Fighter 2 or Bloodrager 2 and scratch Wiz4.

What: While many Pathfinders meet unfortunate fates in their ongoing explorations of the dangerous world of Golarion, some retire with decades' worth of treasure in their coffers, and their lives still intact. When one such Pathfinder approaches the Grand Lodge with the hidden location of her treasure vault, it falls upon a new generation of Pathfinders to retrieve from within a valuable keepsake. That they can keep anything other than the ex-Pathfinder's locket makes the assignment all the sweeter.
