That's what I was thinking too. Orcish Double axe, right? Or is there another version?

EDIT: Would you make a non-double version a battle axe?

long axe if it keeps it keeps the entire shaft, otherwise yes.

monks spade.

@Abe, I was basically thinking of cutting the shaft into two halves, so that it would be shorter. Thanks! Trying to find a weapon for my new PFS Osirion Magus. Because of the inflexibility of PFS rule-calling, I don't think that the double axe will work with the staff magus. >.<

@Graystone, the monk's spade is close, but I don't think it quite works in this case. I will admit that it did cross my mind. Thanks!

I'll go with monk's spade as well, it's almost exactly like one.

It was the closest weapon in form/shape I could think of.

If you are looking for something to use with staff magus (PFS or not), you are stuck with a quarterstaff. You'd have to call that weapon a quarterstaff and use staff stats.

@Dabbler, I beg to differ. It looks similar, that appearance is where it ends. The weapon that I posted is much more similar to the double axe because both ends are heavy slashing weapons. They are also identical, whereas the monk's spade are not.

@graystone, I know, I know. I just wish there were some way to make the concept work with that weapon. :p I probably will just go with either a khopesh or scimitar, though that is not to say that I cannot use the weapon, just rather that it would not be an ideal build. It might have to be a weapon that I pick up later, at higher levels. I don't need a hand free for the Spellstrike ability, do I?

Well you need a free hand to cast the spell in spellstrike. You CAN keep dropping a hand off weapon, casting and gripping weapon again as free actions but you are looking at three free actions and some DM's cheese meter is going to go off. Since a DM can always limit free actions, just know this might not work.

PS: I'll have to disagree that it looks more similar to a double axe. I saw that and right off I said "monks spade for sure".

It looks like one end of the monk's spade to be sure, but the other end is all wrong. The mechanics for the monk's spade would not work well for something that is exactly the same on both ends. Additionally, the end of the weapon is like the edge of a battle axe just facing out instead of in the direction of the swing.

That is one thing that bothers me though, with it facing out, it becomes more of a slashing versus a hacking weapon, which would imply to me that it would lose the x3 crit.

The monk's spade doesn't differentiate which end you use, what matters is they are both slashing blades. An axe is a hacking blade, very different mechanics involved in it's use.

As Dabbler said, end doesn't matter. Both ends of the weapon work 100% the same. If one end works/fits, then the other does too. Secondly, I'd have to say in use, it'd be used like a spade and not chopping like a double axe.

Bottom line: If you are really asking to make stats for a weapon picture, at least two of us agree it's a spade. Placing a picture of all three side by side, I think most would agree.

Now if you WANT it to be a double axe, it could fit a guess. IMO it'd be like wearing clothes 2 sizes too big. You can do it but clothes your size just works better.

So, let's just say 'Double Axe or Monk's Spade, whichever will work better for your build'.

Yeah you could say that. I'd suspect though he'll get a few odd look at the axe/spade. :)

You have good points. I actually thought the two ends did different damage, but I was mis-remembering and thinking that it was more like the Taiaha.

Regardless, it will not really be something that I will be able to do anyway, at least not as a primary weapon.

Thanks for your guys' input! I really appreciate it!

Actually, you do need a free hand, check the spell combat rules: "To use this ability, the magus must have one hand free (even if the spell being cast does not have somatic components), while wielding a light or one-handed melee weapon in the other hand."

So, you could free action to open up a hand and cast a spell like a normal caster, then fee action to grab your weapon and use spellstrike to deliver the free touch attack, but no spell combat plus a regular melee attack in the same round with a two hander.
