Good monk build for this AP?

Wrath of the Righteous

Hi. Just like it says, I'm wondering if their is an ideal demon killing build any of you might recommend. Thanks.

Some sort of demon grappling monk would be very fun.

Scarab Sages

There's a lot you can do with grapplers. I would look at a mix of monk and fighter. I ran a villians campaign and the person playing Gaston at one point had two constructs grappled (a wardrobe & chair) with one already grappling another Pc (due to swallow whole mechanics). He took a two level dip in Monk and I believe used the brawler archetype. Some of the style feats available can also aid a grappler really well!

Shadow Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am building an Assimar Monk 2/Mendev Cleric of Ragathiel (Catastrophe SubDomain) and going with the Crusader's Flurry Feat from Ult Combat.

Not sure, but I would think that down the road, a Grappling Monk might get torn apart. Aberrations, Demons, and Undead are suppossed to be the biggest threats in the AP, (and I am completely guessing here) I would assume that you might not want to be so close too often.

Now, that being said, a few Levels of Paladin might be pretty awesome in that regard, and a smiting flurry could work well.

Champion of Irori Prestige Class would work quite well...

I've always loved the idea, and I generally avoid paladins like the plague. MAD as heck, but I think it has enough options to make it fun and bursty in a campaign like this.

Dark Archive

I've always loved the martial art concept. Though I've never played a paladin before. I think this will be a great role playing experience for myself and everyone else at my table. I'm going into this Ap with Champion of Irori in mind.

I must say a Brother of the Seal could be an interesting option just for reenact one of the greatest moments in the Judge Dredd comic book with said prestige class Awesome Blow ability.

Since the focus is on fighting demons, Monks are going to run into some serious problems with DR during the entire first book, and maybe the starting sections of the second book. Everyone else can pick up a cold iron weapon for relatively cheap with no real qualms - but myself and all of my other players always feel somewhat dirty when our monks pick up a weapon that isn't a pair of sticks or a staff (that said, we're all martial artists ourselves, so it just feels silly for us.)

Grappling may also run you into some problems, because a lot of demons are things that're extremely unpleasant (if not outright painful) to touch or cling to. So you might be better off with just playing Fisto McFistpuncher and swallowing your pride/warrior spirit to pick up a cold iron temple sword as a demonkilling tool.

Cold Iron "brass" knuckles.

They'll exist because monks are in the area fighting demons.

That's... a brilliant work around. Stat it as a cold iron cestus, or a cold iron spiked gauntlet? Or just allow his hand to hand damage to deal Cold Iron earlier?

Or did I miss something and there's already stats for brass knuckles?

Agreed!

Figured I'd give this one a try myself.

In the APG, HERE

The workaround I devised for the Iomedae-worshiping, grappler-build monk in my party was to

'Spoilered' to protect the innocent:
have Radiance disintegrate/evaporate in his hands when the party found it, leaving just the two sets of wrappings for the hilt. Two wrappings that happen to go around said monk's hands quite nicely, but provide him all the benefits of the sword.

I just hate to see a good thing like that go to waste, neh? ;)

With all the succubi demons in the AP, a grappling monk is certainly... interesting!

Exploit Weakness will deal with the DR issues.

Do you have someone to cast mage armour on you? Monks can tank quite well.

I'm playing a grappling Magus/WHW in the same AP and am having a great time using Final Embrace with enlarge person when needed.
