Fast Healing + Regeneration How do they interact?

Rules Questions

Greetings fellow gamers,

I have a question regarding the interaction of Regeneration and Fast Healing. Specifically; do they stack?

Say a troll barbarian has managed to get fast healing 5.

He's already got regeneration 5

Would that mean that he would gain 10hp per round? Unless he gets to negative CON hp, or there is fire applied, which would negate one of them. (Or both if the fire damage was what brought it to negative CON for hit points = Resulting in actual death)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It seems he would indeed regain 10 HP per round - neither ability grants any sort of named bonus or effect, so they act independently of each other.

Yeah, would stack imo. However, why does one have such a thing?

You could get Fast Healing from a spell or ability and Trolls already have Regeneration.

Creatures with regeneration heal damage at a fixed rate, as with fast healing, but they cannot die as long as their regeneration is still functioning (although creatures with regeneration still fall unconscious when their hit points are below 0).

Regarding if they stack, it is not conclusive but based on the bolded section I believe Regeneration is 'Fast Healing with bonus stuff'. As a result, they would not stack.
