"Greetings and well met nasty, where are you folks heading to?"
WAIT I THOUGHT I WAS THE LEADER.
He shakes his head at AM Healer.
"NO ... Miss pouty Lips is leader we talked about this already. Now stop interrupting me I am being diplomatic."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
"We are going to the Mines of Boria we have secret mission. What are you doing here? Do you have food I am hungry."
Captain Garnerr: "Secret Mission? More a suicide mission if you ask me"
"We are returning from Fort Bedford for some well deserved R&R"
"We have food, perhaps you tell us your secret mission and we will share with you.
I laugh. "Nasty DOES like his dramatization. We're going to ransack the place and hope that we come out alive."
Bluff: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
Captain Garneer: "Ah I see, well good luck with that. I had a friend of a friend who went up there once-can't remember his name.Anyway he said that you could hear a humming noise coming from inside.Sounds like ghosts to me!"
"What at Fort Bedford? I would like food I tell you what you want for food."
Nasty! People don't LIKE people trying to stop darkness!
Captain Garneer: "What's at Fort Bedford? Why soldiers son". *He rolls his eyes and mildly shakes his head*
He looks at Nesod:"He's not the sharpest tool in the shed eh?"
He looks back at Nasty "Did you come to the mountains without food?"
"Not enough for him. We'd be willing to buy some."
Captain Garneer: "Nah that's ok, you and your friends can join us for supper we got more than enough. 'sides your buddy their will keep us entertained"
"I am always hungry. I eat a lot of food. I have trail rations and haggas from my friend Agetn James Bard ... but he is missing no more haggas. do you have any haggas?"
Captain Garneer: "No Haggis, but we got some venison stew with potatoes and turnips"
As for James Bard.... Emphysema it's no joke

"When the sun rises in the East, it is a sign that we shall have stew for dinner."
"Oooooh, stew! That will do splendidly!"
Well, sludge as sludge, right?
You all rest remarkably well as captain garneers troops keep watch that evening, in fact the next 2 days are much the same.
About midway through the 4th day you find the trail that heads east towards the mines. The trail is 5' wide with sheer granite mountain on one side and a very steep dropoff on the other. According to your map you are about a day and a half from the mines.
Can I make any sort of knowledge check?
Any sort of natural hazards?
You mean like rocks fall you die
How about knowledge nature or...er dungeoneering?
Nasty Orc takes point.
"Me go first see if safe. I protect Nesod from any falling rocks."
The next 24 hours pass without incident it is midday on the 5th day of your travels you crest the hill and an icy wind chills you as you stare at the Mines of Booria.(Duhnt Duhnt Dah)
The mines are located in a bowl like depression approximately 200' wide filled with a few leafless trees and what look to be humanoid remains. The bodies look clawed and shredded, as if attacked by a vicious animal!
Sorry I'm late. Came down with a nasty flu bug.
knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
What kind of animal?
No Problem, Get better
These bodies are pretty shredded, it looks as if you will have to get a closer look.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Alissa:Sorry I forgot one thing Your knowledge nature check reveals that those trees are evergreen and should not be leafless.
Nesod: You are too far away, it looks as if you guys need to get into the trap uh bowl.
Did you (in character) SAY tra-uh, bowl? Or did I get the vibe it was a trap, or just that I need to get closer?
Regardless of the answer, I say send Nasty in first.
And the out of character, you saying we needed to get closer set off my alarm bells.
Ugh! I keep forgetting. Is sucks when all your skils are charisma or non-knowledged base. I'm thinking of taking a second class. Any pointers or suggestions for a prestige class?
Uh, do I get a Perception Check?
Nesod: You are so paranoid, what could possibly go wrong?
AMS: Dragon Disciple? Yes you may make a check, however you are too far away and will need to go in the bowl
Well, there was that death scarab thing you mentioned earlier.
Wait...if everyone gets ready, I can use my illusion wand to make decoys go in, and then we can get the jump on the scarab!
Ok then so you all get to within 100' of the valley, crouch down low and use the wand?
What would you like your images to do?
Really old gamer wrote: *Sits down at the head of the table, checking to see if any nurses are nearby. Seeing none of them, he scratches his beard and takes out his dice bag and a well-noted ancient copy of Tome of Horrors*
Hey! You guys!
Yeah, you. Come on, let's play some D&D! I got the...
*looks carefully at his adventure, then stretches his arms to see better*
...Tomb of... Ummm... Borrors here. Yeah, you can borrow my dice.
*pours out a bunch of miserably useless dice of severely mismatched colours*
Now, you will need a character, or you can't play! Lunch won't be for a while yet, so I think we are safe for a while. C'mon, a bit of age is no obstacle to playing!
Dot
Ah It looks like we may have a new player?
I'd like them to head on over to the place you wanted us to investigate, with the Nesod one looking more heroic and buffer than the others.

Your images move into the valley, and head toward some mutilated bodies, as your group nears a mutilated corpse...Rocks start raining down on your images from the west side of the valley.
From the other side emerge tall creatures with rough gray hide, their hands end in claws, and their bestial faces have hideous tusked underbites.
Your images disappear in a shower of granite rocks.
I guess that's what happens when rocks hit illusions
Favoriting that as one of the laws of magic.
I say we Stealth up to the East Side, yo.
Ok then lets say the mine entrance and the tall creatures are north and the way you came in is south
Roll your stealth
Individual or party roll?
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Sneak Sneak
Just barely made it!
All of you make it to the east side of the valley, emerging from the rocky area surrounding the mines entrance are 6 of the large grayish creatures. They seem rather befuddled as to how their rocks managed to disintegrate the party.
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
What kind of creatures?
They look like oversized gray trolls
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
So we need fire?
Keep in mind I said "Looks" like trolls I'm not going to throw stuff at you that you have no way to defeat
No, I have Acid Spalsh and Paralyzation.
