Question about Manyshot and Rapid Shot: - please help

Rules Questions

if you have 2 attacks can you use both feats as the description says they are both full attack actions.

Only asking as I have looked at Treantmonk's Guide Ranger Guide and it says "When you get to 6th level you will notice that your arrows are really quite deadly. With Deadly Aim, Manyshot, and Rapid shot, you can fire 4 arrows in one round for pretty nice damage potential."

Scarab Sages

They aren't Full Attack actions themselves, they can be used as part of a full attack action, so you can use both together.

yes but in both descriptions of the feats they say When making a full-attack action with a bow.

They are not actually full attack actions; they are options that you can take when you are making a full attack action. So yes, they stack.

[edit]
They basically modify the attacks that make up the full attack action in the same way Power Attack does.

You declare a full attack.

Now that you're making a full-attack action, you can make as many attacks as you are allowed. Rapid Shot and Manyshot both allow you to make extra attacks as "part of a full-attack action" - since you ARE taking a full-attack action, you CAN use both of these feats as part of this action.

They both apply.

They are also both optional - you don't have to use them both, you don't have to use either of them at all. It's all up to you.

Yes, when you are standing still unleashing all of your attacks without moving more than your 5 foot step, you get a FULL-ATTACK ACTION. You can use BOTH of these feats during the full attack action.

Manyshot gives you 2 arrows with your first attack if you hit with the attack roll you get 2d8 + X

Then you get your Rapid Shot which is at your first attack BAB (minus the penalty to your Atk bonus for the feat usage)

Then you get your normal 2nd attack at the lowered bonus (BAB at 6 is +6/+1 before modifiers)

Ssalarn is correct. It says 'when making' not 'as a'. That is the major difference here.

If you need a comparison look at Shot on the Run. That is where the spring attack action is a Full-Round action.

thanks ad a friend look at this and we both agree problem came from the wording in description could had been better.

Yes, sometimes figuring out rules details requires us to pick apart the language word-by-word until we can parse the true meaning. And yes, I agree, sometimes it seems it could have been clearer. Or at least, a bit more of a general glossary to explain the particular linguistic constructs for the rules, such as the mechanical difference between "As a full attack" and "As part of a full attack".

If it's any consolation, we all struggled with these kinds of linguistic challenges and most of us asked the same questions - eventually you'll fully understand this stuff and you can answer the next guy who asks...

However, when you use Rapid Shot all your shots take a -2 penalty to hit. I presume this would also include the Manyshot feat first attack!

"All of your attack rolls" means all of your attack rolls, yes.

I don't really see why you necro'd this thread for that, but whatever.

I've read a few threads regarding this and it seems the feats have changed over the years, so I am posting to make sure I understand correctly. The way the feats are written as of today seems to suggest that at level 6 you get 4 arrows and 3 attacks, all at -2 penalty. So, my BAB would normally be +6/+1 but with Rapid Shot it becomes +4/+4/-1 and with Manyshot it becomes +4 (2 arrows)/+4/-1 for a total of 4 arrows per full round attack. Am I interpreting the feats correctly? Sorry to "Necro" this thread again.

yep - looks like you got it right, though it doesn't technically change your BAB, but you've got the right idea
