Exotic Race Allowing Chronicle Sheets?

I'm confused as to how the Chronicle Sheets allowing more exotic races work, and what exactly they are supposed to do, as well as how to obtain them. Is this listed somewhere on the site, or did I misss something?

Chronicle sheets allowing exotic races are given out at conventions, to both players and GMs. They're randomized with other boons, so attending a con does not guarantee an exotic race boon. There are also always specific races in rotation, so you can't obtain just any race at any given time.

There's not really anything official written about it, though at this point, I'd actually recommend to Paizo staff that it would be good to add to the Guide to Organized Play.

Basically, there are special chronicle sheets that aren't tied to having played an adventure. These are usually referred to as "race boons", which basically say that you have permission to play a particular race, and that this chronicle must be the first one on your character. ie You can't make a character, then change to the exotic race later.

Right now, the only way to get them is to show up to a big enough convention that's giving them out as prizes. In some cases, GMs get them automatically as a reward for volunteer to run games, while players may have a small random chance to win one. There's also a plan to start giving them away at random to the entire PFS player base, instead of just convention goers, but it will still be only a small, random group of people that gets them.

All in all, they're pretty rare. So plan your characters only based on the races that are always allowed until you actually pick up a race boon.

There are also boons for things other than races, but they aren't nearly as popular. For instance, I picked up a boon at one convention that lets me pick one school of magic and get a +1 bonus to all saving throws vs that school for one of my PCs. Another one lets you get a third trait on a PC, instead of the normal two.

When you get one of these chronicle sheets, it allows you to use it to create a new character of that race. That chronicle must be the first chronicle for that character. As well, the chronicle sheet requires you (at least on the ones I have) to bring the appropriate book that contains that race with you (for example, I have sheets allowing me to play a Dhampir and an Ifritt, so I made new characters, one of each race. I have to bring the Bestiary 2 with me to games where those characters will play, since that is the book where those races are described.)

And, as was mentioned, these chronicles (sometimes called "boons" I think) are given out at conventions, etc.

Or the Advanced Race Guide, seeing as it reprints both of those races.

Also, the race boon does NOT have to be the first chronicle applied to the character; not only can things like the

boon be applied before it, but Mike Brock has ruled that you can use a first level rebuild to rebuild into a race boon.

Usually, it'll be the first boon, but it doesn't have to be.
