I doubt that any significant data crunching has been done on this, since you'd need a full on psych/anthro coding system to properly quantify topics. But I'm very curious if anyone's just taken a glance.
Mostly, though, I think you'll find that "most hides" will correlate with "longest-running threads."

I pretty much Hide anything I have no interest in, using it somewhat like "mark thread as read" on other forums, but permanently. Cuts down on the visual clutter, and allow things that might be of more interest to me to float up.
That makes me useless as a data source for analyzing what kinds of things are most often hidden.

Agreed. You forgot one though - threads that are 'edition wars'. That is a big turn off for me.
