There seems to be some general confusion about when the deadline for playing Way of the Kirin (and rivalry's end too) and having a chance to receive the boon. Some people seem to believe that the 14th is the last day you can participate or GM it for it to count, as in before the end of the 14th, and others are saying that the 13th is really the last day because it literally says before the 14th.
Could perhaps the powers that be ring in and clear this up? It makes a big difference to me since I'm signed up to play in Way of the Kirin as part of the PFS pre-gencon hoopla at Scotty's and I was really hoping to have a chance a the boon for my character.

Also, per Mike, August 14 is the "exact date" of the faction change. Which means you aren't Lantern Lodge anymore when you play it on the 14th.
I was under the impression you could switch your faction at game time, or (if you didn't switch at chronicle distribution time) on the 14th. The chronicle for Rivalry's End does not seem to have this option though.

Lantern Lodge and Shadow Lodge characters all get one "free" faction change, which can be used at any time since they announced that they were getting the axe.
However, August 14th marks the start of Season Five, and with it, version 5.0 of the Guide to PFS Organized Play. Under the rules of v5.0, Lantern Lodge and Shadow Lodge will no longer be legal factions. This means that games played on or after August 14th will NOT allow you to play as a member of those two factions.
So if you play Way of the Kirin on August 14th, you MUST change your faction BEFORE the game begins; since you're NOT a member of the Lantern Lodge DURING the scenario, you do NOT gain the Lantern Lodge boon.

It is because the factions are dissolved. It's not a matter of giving an extra month. Everyone that had a Shadow Lodge character was given several months notice via e-mail. If you made a character afterwards, then it kind of sucks, but these special boons were created to thank the people that supported the faction before all this happened. Luckily for me I had a character in each from last year, but even for me it is a little rough, because I am still a level short from being able to play Rivalry's End, and time is running out.
At least that is my feelings on the matter. Take it with a grain of salt... ^_^

It's not something I'm really familiar with and I wouldn't know where to start. I remember playing a dnd game once years ago through IRC but it seemed clunky and slow.
[sarcasm] Yes, surely an experience with a technology system that nobody even uses anymore is an accurate representation of how it works in the modern era! [/sarcasm]
Seriously, though, check out http://roll20.net and of course the Online GRand Lodge forum: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderS ociety/grandLodgeOnlinePlay

You can find a number of online games to sign up for on this Warhorn page; they usually fill up pretty quickly, but I do see a couple of tables of We Be Goblins Too on Tuesday with only a total of ten players signed up, so you might be able to sneak in there.
They also have two tables each of Way of the Kirin and Rivalry's End before the 14th that have seats open.

You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks. It would be sort of spiffy to be able to play online but it'd probably take me a while to sort out how it's done. I haven't had a webcam or headset in years, never having gotten into any of the games which use voice/video chat. I've kept it pretty old school really. I'll take a look though and thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, the only players around here I could rope in for this weekend wanted to play, so I ran Rivalry and the 1st half of Crypt of the Everflame so I can apply the boon before the deadline. No one else ever wants to GM. I would have done it on PbP, but I was concerned about getting it in time. No one says you can't call your friends, round them up, and have a session!
