Awakened demilich

Ok heres the deal I am goimg to run a home brew where my players come up against a awakened demi lich. I have most of the andventure mapped out, but I'm runnimg low on time. I was hoping some people here would help me build the bbg. Iwant him to be a necro spec wizard gone lich and finally awakened demilich. Basicly all i have at this point is a cr cap at 17-18 and specializing in death magic. So just throw some ideas or mock builds my way please. If you decided to help thanks a bunch.

Well, if you want, you might not NEED him to be the big bad end guy. One example I can give of a demi-lich/lich in my own game not being that was when we were playing a game in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. We were basically contracted out by some eccentric collector (we thought anyway) to find some ancient artifacts in a tomb. He also gave us two guys to go with us, claimed it was for insurance. We figured he was working to stab us in the back without paying or setting us up for something else.
We entered into the tomb, and found a lot of the stuff guarded by a demi-lich, though it wasn't awakened. Well, we had it worked out so that it killed the two guys that came with us, then we shattered it. Our wizard knew that, if we didn't find the phylactery and destroy it, the Lich would grow back pretty quickly and come looking for us. So, instead, we took ONLY what we were tasked to take, and left a note informing the Lich of the object taken, and who currently had it.
Funnily enough, we were paid, though he wasn't happy about having to pay the exhorbitant fee we charged, and we fled the city, heading to the Iron Isles to wait and see what happened and adventure in Igmundr the Unruly's lands. Eventually, we were contacted by the Lich, who was rather thankful for the note and decided not to kill us (doubtful he could have anyway).
Instead, he hired us to do work for him. Nothing crazy, just item hunting and clearing out some fun places that maybe he could take advantage of for a better home base of operations.

If you want stats and such, an idea would be to look in the 4th or 5th adventure path of the Shattered Star (whichever has the Blue Dragon in it) as there's an awakened demi-lich as a bad guy in there.

Awakened Demilich CR 16. Throw the advanced template or some more wizard levels on top.

If you use the Awakened Demilich from the link above, fix the spell list. Several are completely unnecessary.

6th--Get rid of Circle of Death. The demi-lich has AT-WILL Wail of the Banshee, which is much more powerful. Substitute Eyebite or Major Curse instead.

4th--Get rid of one of the Wall of Ice spells (keep the other). Use Deeper Darkness instead (the demi-lich has constant True Seeing).

2nd--Get rid of extended Mage Armor (even with it, the demi-lich only has an AC of 24, so anyone who wants to hit it will. It's got DR 20/-; that's its true defense. Also get rid of See Invisibility. It's got constant True Seeing, making the other totally redundant. Give it Stinking Cloud and Blindness.

1st--Get rid of both of the Shield spells. Give it anything you like instead. Alarm. Anticipate Peril. Heck, even a Hold Portal cast after a Cloudkill or Stinking Cloud could make the PCs' lives interesting if the battle area is small enough and there is only one exit.

Thanks for the info. I know my players wont pass up a treasure hoard lol, so the fight is bound to happen. This should be a good strat point.
if i add two levels of wizard he should have 7th level access any suggestions on what to take.

How about one being intensified Cold Ice Strike? Swift action 20d6 is pretty nice. The other spell, the one that has to be necromantic, could be Waves of Exhaustion. Gotta love those no save spells.

He could cast them both in the same round and if he leads off with the Waves of Exhaustion, everyone in the area will have a -3 on their save to the Cold Ice Strike.
