Mule question

Rules Questions

Can a mule become combat trained since it is effectively a pony with the advanced template?
Can a mule be considered a horse for the mount traits relating to horse breeds (Like Dort Chargers, Lastwall Jaspers)?

Reason for questions is that a player is bringing in a new character since the previous one died. He is playing a Half-Elf who is hoping to have a combat trained Chiardmar mule, which is a half breed (Half donkey half horse)

Any animal could be combat trained.

It's up to you whether or not a mule could qualify as a horse for traits relating to breeds. You could say that the mule's mare mother was of the intended breed. But, unless you're actually playing in the specific area where those countries exist (as they are regional feats I think) then it doesn't make as much sense. Unless you're ignoring the regional thing, in which case, sure. By strict RAW though, no, because I'm assuming these are regional feats that specify a horse and not a mule.

Not region locked but defiantly bred in different regions. Each mount trait you decided to pick up applies to the rider's maximum total for traits they can have. However I do doubt their would be a dual breed horse as then it would not be worth as much when compared to a strong purebred.

Combat trained - yes, like all handle animal tricks.

If it relates to breed, I would say no. Mules are sterile and breeding is made difficult.

Mixing different species is close to the opposite of purebred.

Hmm alright I concur with you duckie and claxon.

I have the urge to assert that all mules are automatically combat trained, they just don't use their tricks on command and if pressed are as likely to use their tricks on their riders as on the enemy. :)

But then that's just me going on stereotypes.
