Phantasmal Web

Rules Questions

I'm thinking of using the spell as a Hold Monster substitude on an illusionist build. It's not quite paralysis, but grappled + nauseated on multiple targets seems good enough.

But how exactly does it work?

It says "Those who fail to disbelieve the phantasmal web are treated as if in a web spell".

1. Does that mean they are grappled as soon as they fail the will save or do they still get the reflex save allowed by web?
2. If they are grappled, can they break free? If so, how since the web is indestructible for them?
3. If they aren't grappled, do they need to make a CMD or Escape Artist check to move at all?

Nothing? No-one ever used this spell?

No, no secondary save.

Yes, as long as this action does not break or damage the web. And since the victim cannot move out anyway, they'd just get re-grappled (probably instantaneously so). So really, it's easier to say the victim can't break the grapple, even though that's not actually the case.

Pushing the imaginary strands aside should do the trick, but hacking or burning the "web" would not.

They are grappled. And:
  • The victim cannot move out of the web.
  • Phantasmal Web is a spell targeted at creatures, not at places
  • Therefor, the victim is denied all movement (in the Pathfinder sense, that is: movement from one square to another).
