Final Fantasy Characters

Homebrew and House Rules

One of the things that has intrigued me about Pathfinder is you can make just about anything. One of my favorite series growing up is final fantasy. I was wondering if anyone has thought about making characters based off that series at all.

More specifically there were a couple main characters I had no idea how to make. I would love to see your builds for any of characters based off the game that you've made. I really want to know how I would go about building Red 13 (FF7) and Vanille (FF13), most.

Scarab Sages

The problem with making Red 13 is his race. Your DM would need to let you play an Awakened animal to pull it off. I'd make him a Monk because he seems to have a high wisdom and dex, and his attack animations look more like he is headbutting an enemy than biting.

I suppose you could also make a Synthesist summoner with Red as the Eidiolon, but it isn't a true match to the character from the game.

Never played FF13 so I can't speak to Vanille.

I never play XIII either, but I checked the Wiki and I think the best combination for Vanille would be Synthesis and Witch.

I also suggest doing gestalt characters.

See Witch is what I thought would be best for Vanille due to Debuffing, but i wasn't wondering if there was a better combination.

Red 13, could be a Druid I guess?

Monk/Druid is super awesome! Colossal Fist damage AND high AC/Misc. Survival capabilities.

I may have a small pile of Monk/Something classes I've been creating... I do have a rooted love for Monks :)

The only thing that stinks about this combination, is there are 4-5 Required Feats which takes up nearly half of your Feat progression throughout your 20 levels.
Natural Spell, Quicken Spell, Monastic Legacy, and Shaping Focus. There are so many other good Feats that would work for this class combination, but just not enough space to acquire them :T

For Red I think this would make the most sense.

Up to a point. Many characters are bad fits for a mechanics heavy rule system such as any D20 variant. The Doctor for instance, is a much better fit for a story based system such as Storyteller, or of course the new Cubicle 7 published roleplaying game. And the magic of Elric's Moorcock is an especially terrible fit in D20.

I've played a character based on Red XIII. The race was custom made as was the class, because the system we were using at the time (Big Eyes Small Mouth) was more or less a "build your own" system. Every ability had a cost, similar to a point buy.

Were I to build Red XIII in Pathfinder, I'd probably build him as a serene barbarian. When I played the game, I usually equipped him with the "Enemy Skill" materia, which I think you can emulate fairly well with rage powers. He had fairly high hit points and he was really fast (Sled Fang), so that seems to fit with the class, too.

If I recall, he used a bladed comb to attack (which was attached to his head and/or tail). So for his weapon, something based on the kobold tail spike would work.

He obviously requires a custom race (unless blink dog would suffice).

I'd grab a trait like "Dangerously Curious" so that he could get Use Magic Device as a class skill (use re-flavored wands to emulate materia).

The only thing missing is summoning. Perhaps if you wanted to multi-class, you could pick up some levels of summoner, but I don't think it's essential.

Anyone could summon, though, in the game (with the proper materia), so the DM could bake the "Eidolon" class feature into everyone's class or allow them as special 1/day items (flavored as materia) if he or she wanted to run a Final Fantasy game (though, when I played such a campaign we used a d20 system built precisely for use with FF).
