When to move from Monk to Fighter...

Advice

My wife is making a Catfolk Monk who dumped Wisdom. Started as a Monk (2nd level) to get better damage and more unarmed feats starting out. But, since she can't take advantage of much from that Class with a low Wisdom, I've suggested she multi over into a Fighter. But when is the best time to do that? My calculations suggest 3rd level, or at latest 4th. That seem about right?

Also, is there a better choice than Unarmed Fighter for her Fighter Archetype when/if she does switch classes?

The usual cutoffs I've heard for monk are either 2nd or 4th level; Levels 1 and 2 have a lot of feats and features; at level 4, you get the Ki Pool. Considering that the monk's wisdom stinks, rendering the Ki Pool almost useless, I'd go with stopping at Monk L2.

+1

I've recommended Mobile Fighter to her as an Archetype, over Unarmed Fighter. That a good idea?

The great debate about how to handle the monk. personally, I would recommend with SGG's Talented Monk. It's a system so you can make anything, like the armored Wsidom-less monk, without having to do the crazy multi-classing.

Does she just want to be an armored monk? No other special bits onto the combat style? I'd say unarmed fighter if she wants to grapple, but otherwise yeah, mobile fighter or free-hand fighter would work, although if she wants to have fun with special abilities and bonuses to combat maneuvers I've had a lot of fun with the brawler and cad archetypes. Brawler gets a bigger bonus to unarmed damage over the standard fighter and gets fun abilities. The Cad I recommend just because he's fun.
