Alchemist + Crafter Feats

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

So with the current ruling on Spell-Like Abilities allowing Crafter feats to be taken in the FAQ
Then an Assimar Alchemist can take all the crafting feats they want, as could other non-casters, all because they have a spell-like ability.

I suppose that is one way to get around the ruling that Alchemists aren't spellcasters to take crafting feats.

The same goes for Tieflings... what other races have innate spell-like abilities that have a caster level based on HD?

I think the Kitsune has that transformation.
Though, to what end? Would you just buy scrolls or up the DC of the craft in order to craft something?

I like the ruling. Now I can replicate my 3.5 artificer using the alchemist as a base. Well, I still won't be able to scribe scrolls or craft wands or staffs, but it's a start.

Scarab Sages

Just up the DC.
For items with one or two spells it isn't hard to hit the DCs.
And instead of paying the 'Master Craftsman' feat tax, you could instead get Skill Focus (Spellcraft) for either a +3/+6 boost to Spellcraft.

Unless there is something trumping the following that I'm not aware of, you can't just up the DC to make potions, spell-trigger (wands and staves) and spell-completion items (scrolls).
From the 2nd paragraph of the Magic Item Creation Chapter(emphasis mine)

PRD wrote:

The DC to create a magic item increases by +5 for each prerequisite the caster does not meet. The only exception to this is the requisite item creation feat, which is mandatory. In addition, you cannot create potions, spell-trigger, or spell-completion magic items without meeting their spell prerequisites.

Scarab Sages

An alchemist can already make potions... just can't do Craft Wondrous or Craft Arms & Armors with the latest FAQ on the Alchemist. However if you have a spell-like ability you can get around that.

An Alchemist should be able to build a dang Homunculus, without having racial Spell-like abilities.

It's a Homunculus!

They go together like Dwarves and Beards.

If anything, they should have a Discovery to do it.

Scarab Sages

That makes a lot of sense BBT, after all the alchemist already has a discovery for a tumor familiar... :)

Grand Lodge

Ah, I have been fighting for that ever since the Alchemist came out.

When I saw a certain Adventure Path with a

certain NPC:
Nalthezzar, a 12th-level Alchemist Lich
, I thought all was saved.

Apparently, that was just a rule-breaker.

Hell, he can't even make an Alchemical Golem.

Scarab Sages

And that is most annoying, the biggest reason for my alchemist to become a crafter at all is to make an Alchemical Golem... but oh dear lord are the DCs high even when you use the alchemist extract list.

Well, I recall James Jacobs saying that he thought Alchemists should be able to make golems and such, and implied it would probably happen before too long.
