Repeating Crossbow question

Do the repeating crossbows come with removeable clips or are they more like the M1 Grand rifle with an internal clip that needs to be fead one bolt at a time?

The repeating heavy crossbow holds 5 repeating crossbow bolts. As long as it holds bolts, you can reload it by pulling the reloading lever (a free action). Loading a new case of 5 bolts is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

You can fire a repeating crossbow with one hand or fire a repeating crossbow in each hand in the same manner as you would a normal crossbow of the same size. However, you must fire the weapon with two hands in order to use the reloading lever, and you must use two hands to load a new case of bolts.

Bolding my own. Sounds like it is like a cartridge type thing. Stick 5 bolts into the case and then pull the lever to feed a new bolt in (as a free action!)

Liberty's Edge

I always thought it was a top-fed box that was not removed.

Paizo did nerf repeating crossbows a bit (compared to RL). Some magazines would hold 10 to 15 bolts.

Could be, but I don't know if there were different designs based on country in real life. The original (Chinese) was a top fed thing.

They may have "nerfed" the magazine, but they also made it much more powerful than it was in real life.

now now lets not start that here too

In real life it would be a rare weapon, but not an exotic one. Not hard to learn how to use.

Anyhow, regarding the OP, the text makes it sounds like it basically has clips. Each "case" holds 5 quarrels and an empty one is replaced by a full one. Bit lame on the action economy to refill it.

I think you just spend a full round action dumping five bolts into the hopper.
