Critical Rolls

Rules Questions

Lets say you rolled a 20, and now your rolling for confirmation on the critical

Lets then say that you rolled a 20 on the confirmation, do you then roll another confirmation to see if its a double critical???

(I once played with a GM that house ruled this as yes simply due to the implausibility of the event, and epicness, but I'd like some actual ruling)

Uh, no. You can't have a one-in-four hundred chance of doing x7 damage on a scythe crit.

No. RAW, no such thing happens.

A common house rule, however, is if you roll a 20, followed by rolling another 20, followed by a successful confirmation roll (beating their AC with your attack roll) that the enemy is successful killed or destroyed.

It is not a standard rule. The 20 does confirm the crit and that's all. Some GMs do have house rules that involve double-confirming, usually for spectacularly ridiculous effects like instant death. I don't care for such house rules myself, but if a table is having fun with them, more power to them.

I've played with houserules similar but never any instant death ones

My current GM rules that if you roll a 20 on the confirmation you can continue rolling and every 20 adds a multiplier...however I've only ever seen someone get 3 in a row

Another is for skill checks...on a 20 you get +5 to the roll and on a 1 you get -5

The 3rd ed optional rule was 20-20-confirm = insta kill. My group used to use 20-20-confirm drop to -1. Now that we use the Crit Deck we allow an extra draw and apply both cards for x2 and x3 weapons (the advantage of the x3 or x4 is the choice of the best effects on the multiple cards).

I really like this rule, I may adopt this for my game. I always disliked the instakill thing myself. Yoink!

For me its 3 20's in a row for insta kill...not for bbeg's though...unless ingenuity and invnetiveness come into play
