Familiar int is a function of master's level, because otherwise familiars would have an int of 2 or 3.

Does an improved familiar get:
* Its intelligence set to whatever the chart says, even if it would otherwise be higher?
* Its listed intelligence, regardless of the chart?
* Whichever is higher?
* A bonus to int that increases over time, but is lower than the int listed on the chart, basically treating the chart as "bonus on top of the base 2 int for your animal"?

Its intelligence is set by that table, so some of the improved familiars actually become more stupid for being your friend.

Personally, I'd go with the 3.5 system of using whichever score is higher. RAW does seem to indicate that that some familiars would get dumber though.

Seconded. After all, it's used for BAB, Base Saves, Hit Points and Skill Ranks, as well.

Note that Hero Lab seems to go with option 4. Our party wizard appears to have a very smart Lyrakien familiar, according to his Hero Lab printout...
