Ok guys, I'm looking to make what I'm calling an unholy vindicator. It's going to be sort of an eldritch knight but divine not arcane. I was thinking about a CE cleric of some CE deity (I don't really care which one), an anti pally, and then all 10 levels in (un)holy vindicator. I don't know what would be most effective though. We start at level 5, so what race, feats, and class levels should I take? Also, which deity? Just choose one whose favored weapon is cool AND worth using. I want this character to be powerful, but I also want an evil BA.

Oh, and if it makes a difference, my GM might let me start as a graveknight. Maybe...

Grand Lodge

Demon-Spawn Tiefling Antipaladin, who follows the Horseman of War, Szuriel.

I would nab the Prehensile Tail alternate racial trait as well.

I need a chaotic evil deity. Is Asmodeous CE?

And should I go cleric for the channel energy req? Or oracle of life (anything else)?

Grand Lodge

No.

He is LE.

Lamashtu is CE, and has the Falchion as a favored weapon.

Lamashtu sounds better for my purposes. I'm looking for sword and shield combat, so are there any other CE deities that I should know about?

Grand Lodge

Ah.

Two handed is a better choice, but there is likely something that could work for you.

Let me look.

Grand Lodge

Okay, Nightripper and Jezelda could work for you.

I suggest two handing your weapon, then pulling out a Quickdraw Shield after your full attack.

Which CE deity's weapon is the great axe? I'll eschew the shield idea.

Ok, my guy is gonna worship Rovagug. What could possibly go wrong...

Anyways, this is what I'm thinking: cleric 1 anti pally 4 to start. Next level will also be anti pally, and than I'll go holy vindicator. Does that sound good? If not, what should I do?

Ok, I'm just going to go anti pally 5 holy vindicator 10 anti pally 5. He'll use a great axe, and take the fiendish boon in the weapon form. Can someone critique this and help with feats?

Just looked a tiefling, and why would I want a penalty to charisma!? Aasimar or suli would be better.

Grand Lodge

There are alternate Tieflings.

Find them here.

Demon-Spawn Tiefling has +2 Strength, +2 Charisma, and -2 Intelligence.

The stats and flavor fit.

Cool, that is pretty helpful. Any feat or build advice?

Channel smite power attack weapon focus etc etc.

Is it best just to go anti pally holy vind and anti pally again?

Scarab Sages

You get channel smite for free. Just be sure you take your required fears and all will be good. Don't forget about the Vindicator's shield ability. The shield must be worn, not used or wielded, meaning you can have it strapped to your back and still gain the benefit. It won't be a huge benefit for you as you aren't channel focused, but its still useful.

Scarab Sages

Check out the guide to the vindicator for some good advice on class builds. It's in the sticky at the top of this forum.

I had already read that guide. Honestly, it isn't that helpful. Can someone just tell me what levels I should take before I enter the PrC!?

Scarab Sages

I would take it to 7th to get access to 2nd level spells without a progression delay. I'm at work so I'm afraid I can't pull stuff up and give you more than that. :(

That makes sense. I'll look at the spells and see if that's worth the wait. Get back to me after work if you ever have any more advice.

Personally I would go barbarian 4/cleric1/ HV X, but anti pally doesn't suck either.

Why barbarian? If its that much better ill consider it.

And which is the better fiendish boon, the summoned minion or the badass weapon?

Scarab Sages

Weapon for sure. You can always buy a combat trained horse if you need to go fast. The stacking weapon enchants are much better IMHO.

Anti-Pally is a good line up to an unholy vindicator I think.
Tell me, why are you so devoted to a chaotic evil deity?
There are some great neutral evil and chaotic neutral gods out there that can certainly fill whatever needs you'd be looking towards.

Also, while great axe is awesome, and it is, I'd rather have greatsword or falchion. Larger critical range, so when I vorpal my blade up as an anti-pal (you might not get that ability because you're only doing up to level 10 or so with anti-pal, I can't remember) I can still critical normally without one shotting a fella.

Ok, I'll go with the greatsword. I want a CE deity because he'll be CE. I've been considering straight anti pally, but I wanted to go words of power with the oracle or cleric levels to get the undeath word of power. I can't do that as a straight anti pally unless I'm a samsaran which wouldn't be good.

All anti pallys are chaotic evil, doesn't mean that you need a god that's Chaotic Evil.
Anti-Pals of Gorum strive to keep wars and battles going for as long as possible, subvert peace agreements and truces, and in general create a desire for battle where there once was none.
Anti-Pals of Callistria are lustful things who believe in selfishness, put themselves above others, and when they are wronged, real or imagined, revenge themselves against that wrong tenfold (i.e. somebody gave you a dirty look poke out one of their eyes, someone spread a falsehood about you, cut out their tongue, someone is too cheap to pay you, take a finger and toe for every ten gold you're owed, etc).
Anti-Pals of Norgorber are extremely secretive and never do anything for free, always expecting to get something in return, and never show their hand. They lie, cheat, and murder to get what they want without revealing anything or giving anything away.
An Anti-Pal of Suzuriel could be an arms dealer who sells to both Orcs and Humans in an effort to inflame violence and let them feel the horrors of war.
They can be fun and crazy. An anti-pal of the pirate queen Besmara could be one of the most horrific pirates to sail the seas.
My point is, you can be Chaotic Evil and venerate a Chaotic Evil aspect of that god without that god being Chaotic Evil. Another example is Droskar, the god of toil.
A Duergar anti-pal of Droskar (or human or Dwarf or anything really) could be a ruthless slave lord and taskmaster, forcing his slaves to work until they drop building weapons, armors, and anything else that comes to mind. He would devote himself to the pursuit of stealing the work of others and passing it off as his own and defiling the altars of Torag wherever he could.

My god isn't important! I want optimization!

Grand Lodge

Szuriel is still a good pick, and will fit.

You can be CE, and worship a NE god.

Lamashtu is still good too, as the Falchion is a good choice.

So, 7 levels of Antipaladin, then unholy vindicator.

Demon-Spawn Tiefling, with the Maw or Claw(choose bite) and Prehensile Tail alternate racial traits.

Power Attack, Furious Focus, Weapon Focus, and so on.

You can still use the Quickdraw Shield tactic, as you will continue to threaten with your Bite.

Is unholy vindicator worth it, or is it better to go straight anti pally?

You threaten with your shield too.

"Threatened Squares: You threaten all squares into which you can make a melee attack, even when it is not your turn. "

You could attack them with your shield.

Grand Lodge

That is true.

Most don't want to attack with it though.

Is the holy vindicator good at all?
