I think this was actually my first introduction to gaming. I can't remember how I got it, whether my parents bought it for me in a store or someone gave it to me as a gift. I never actually played it, but I remember the mat and the video. It was cheesy, but at that time it was pretty cool and helped draw me into gaming.

By the by, here's a great video review/riff of the tape. It's quite hilarious!

maybe its just me but I cant connect to that link.
The thing I remember about the video was people were like blurry or something and there was a dwarf that was sealed into a wall.
Odd, now it won't load for me either.
Oh well, here's the blipTV hosting of said review.

In 1993, shortly after DragonStrike came out, I was at a convention where our booth was across the aisle from the TSR booth, and that video was played on a loop the entire weekend. I think the TSR employees were even more sick of it than we were, because they had to see it at *every* convention that season.
TSR completed, but never released, a second game in the series, WildSpace. Lisa owns a nearly complete copy, missing only the video (which was completed). You can see a trailer for WildSpace here.

edit: No..after finishing part 1, this commentary guy is hilarious. I can't believe I wanted to play DnD after seeing this crap!
This is by the Spoony One, who won a Mashable award a few years ago for being the funniest person on the internet - and I think he still is.
It's down at the moment for some reason, but I strongly urge you to check out his website at www.spoonyexperiment.com to read, see, and hear him tear apart bad old movies, video games, and more!

Holy crap, is this where those persistent rumors about a WildSpace TV series back in the mid-90's came from?

Here's a fun little fact that pretty much no one knows about the Dragon Strike video.
The moronic king in the video is called King Halvor II.
However, there's also a character by that name as a card in the Spellfire card game. In the official Spellfire Reference Guide, Vol. 1, the card (064/1st) is briefly discussed in terms of its game-play value (which is very little, since it has no powers), and then there's a bit of flavor text given:
This king is best known as the bumbling ruler in the DRAGON STRIKE videotape adventure. What is not so well known is that the bumbler is actually an imposter. The real king Halvor II, shown here, was a noble and good king of fiery temper. He carried a magical sword of unknown powers. His current whereabouts are unknown.
In the third edition of the card game, the card was updated to note that his sword was a +5 flaming weapon "that cannot be removed by any means" (which is clearly meant to indicate he can't be disarmed of it, not that he can't put the weapon down). The Spellfire Reference Guide, Vol. 2 shows this version of the card, but has no additional flavor text.

I cracked up at the end. I didn't realize that really was Malibu from American Gladiators.
Was that his big acting debut? Eat your heart out Anthony Hopkins.
Either that or TERROR T.R.A.X.: Track of the Vampire, but there's only so much bad acting I can take in one day, so I'm not going to think about that right now.

I have that CD, as well as "Track of the Werewolf"... Bought them both back when they came out in the late 90's. They were a great "choose your own adventure" style concept, but had terrible acting...

I think I had both of them too, though I just recently found out that there were video versions of them.

Yes! My mom got Dragonstrike for me and my brother back in 93; it was the first roleplaying-related thing I ever had. I still have the d10 that came with it, but lost the rest.
I remember struggling to understand what a "Hero Spell" was. "So he writes things down and fireballs appear? Awesome!" (I was 10 and my English was pretty poor)
I'm pretty sure half those guys were porn actors of some sort, though.
