Conversely, if you offer drugs to an addict, they will be even more susceptible to the bribe than offering the same amount of cash - somehow, the knowledge that they can spend that cash for drugs just isn't the same as seeing their precious fix right in front of them. As a GM, I would be more generous with the DC in this case, but maybe a bit more strict about alignment ramifications.

If you want subtlety though, you might want to throw in a bluff check (which includes sending secret messages). "What will you say to some 'sugar' and 'oregano' for letting through this door?"
I say this in case the GM decides to throw a sting at you, or at least a guard within listening distance you failed the perception check to spot. Plausible deniability. It helps if you actually try to hand off some sugar and oregano.

First thing you need is usually Knowledge: Local. Conventions via bribery vary extremely seriously between nations and regions. Ask your GM something to the effect of: what does my character know about bribery in <fill in the region/culture here>. What's a typical bribe for <fill in the culture> <fill in the social status of the guy you're thinking about bribing> for <fill in the magnitude of the favor requested>? How subtle are these folks insofar as the practice of bribery is concerned?
