Opposition schools and Wands / Scrolls

Rules Questions

I read http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2k02d?Specialist-Wizards-and-Spell#21 but there doesnt appear to be any ironclad resolution. Basically im a illusion spec'd Wizard Incantatrix who has 3 opposition schools. Enchantment, Necromancy, Evocation(dropped at 6th level so it only counts on spells after I dropped it and I didnt take fireball...). So a whole lotta damage dealing is out. And I want to squeak a few more damage spells in.

FWIW I dont like the added bookkeeping of summons.

So im wondering if I could purchase a wand of fireball or Disintegrates or am I FORCED to take opposition research @ 9 to inject a bit of damage dealing?

You can use your opposition schools' wands and scroll with no malus.

You can also cast spells from your opposition schools by using 2 slots per spell instead of one.

Disintegrate is a Transmutation spell, not Evocation, but it's also a 6th level spell. Wands can only have spells up to level 4 in them. The thread you linked is very old. Spell Trigger and Spell Completion items can be used even if they use a spell from a prohibited school. I am not sure why you have 3 opposition schools though.

Wizard Arcane Schools wrote:
A wizard that chooses to specialize in one school of magic must select two other schools as his opposition schools, representing knowledge sacrificed in one area of arcane lore to gain mastery in another. A wizard who prepares spells from his opposition schools must use two spell slots of that level to prepare the spell. For example, a wizard with evocation as an opposition school must expend two of his available 3rd-level spell slots to prepare a fireball. In addition, a specialist takes a –4 penalty on any skill checks made when crafting a magic item that has a spell from one of his opposition schools as a prerequisite.

So the only restrictions for opposition schools are:

a) Must use 2 spells slots to prepare the opposition school spell and
b) Take -4 to skill checks to craft a magic item that uses an opposition school spell.

However if an archetype or ability removes access to all spells in a school (or schools) then a wizard cannot use spell trigger or spell completion items of spells in that school. For example the Sin mages.

So as long as those spells are still in your spell list, you can use scrolls and wands of those spells.

Side note: Incantatrix does not seem to be in Pathfinder at all (or I just missed it), so already we are in GM fiat territory.
