Front Line Archer?

Shadow Lodge

I was looking what the next options are and the next few levels and I looked more in depth at this...

lvl 9 Improved Snap shot - Threaten another 10 feet (so 15 feet with snap shot) with your ranged weapon.

So if at lvl 8 you take snap shot, and at lvl 10 you take combat reflexes...

Now I would have a total of 6 AoO's per round and threaten an incredibly large area.

Given the fact that I'm currently +12 (1d8 + 12) it seems like I would just tear through all the minions.

While the Will saves is still a worry as long as I get up close to the caster they'll be in trouble. Cast a spell? AoO. Withdraw? Probably STILL an AoO.

This sounds incredible...as such I was debating Iron will vs Point Blank Master at lvl 5, but now it is a no brainer to go PBM.

Anyone seen this in action? If so, is it an incredible as it sounds?

This is not my brainchild, I saw it in a few of the archer guides, but I don't think they did this combination justice.

I have never seen that build in action exactly... but I have played a whip build before with combat reflexes, whip mastery etc (nothing like tripping them again when they try to stand up :P)... and I can personally attest to this:

There are few things in life more enjoyable than having AoO after AoO... and it looks like with the build you are describing, your threatened area is so large that just about any enemy that moves you get to attack. Lots of fun, and at least in theory, it seems rather effective. I am curious to see how things work out for you!

I played an archer from level 1-19 and used the combo most effectively. The character was meant to stay in the back but since i had the most health, being the fighter of the party, and ac, got to love all that dex archer needs, it ended up being the front liner most of the time, especially since enemies love to target those that do the most damage. So i played to that using the following build and it worked out flawlessly. Admittedly saves are its weak point but all characters have a weak point, cant have every thing QQ.

Race-
Human

-Class-
Fighter (Weapon Master)

-Stats 20pb-
STR 16 (+2 racial)(+2 leveling) = 20
DEX 16 (+2 leveling)(+6 item) = 24
CON 10
INT 14
WIS 09
CHA 07

-Feats-
01 Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Weapon Focus Composite Longbow
02 Deadly Aim
03 Rapid Shot
04 Weapon Specialization
05 Point Blank Master
06 Manyshot
07 Clustered Shots
08 Greater Weapon Focus
09 Snap Shot
10 Improved Snap Shot
11 Combat Reflexes
12 Pin Down
13 Greater Weapon Specialization
14 Hammer the Gap
15 Penetrating Strike
16 Greater Penetrating Strike
17 Vital Strike
18 Improved Vital Strike
19 Greater Vital Strike
20 Bullseye Shot

-Method-
Clustered Shots and Penetrating shot makes DR apply to the total damage from full round attacks and reduced that DR by 5/10. Snap Shot gives the ability to perform AoO and Pin Down makes it were withdraw actions and 5ft steps provoke and will force enemies that get into melee to stay in melee when needed. Vital Strike chain and Bullseye Shot ar to make use of the Weapon Master's Unstoppable Strike when forced to make only standard action attacks or when facing an enemy that's ac is so high that only one attack will hit. Unstoppable Strike btw ignores DR and hardness anf hits Touch AC.

I was kind of blown away that there wasn't more emphasis on the guides to this build. Given Dex bonus and mithral breast plate/armor training you can get your AC bonus high (while still allowing for a high max dex bonus) with the HP's to take the front lines.

Also, by doing this you essentially eliminate cover provided in narrow hallways by your party.

Seems like this nullifies the need for improved precise shot altogether while laying waste to anything that approaches.

Awesome sauce.

What is? Be more specific man! lol

I was starting thread yesterday about show me your machine gun bow tank and all the sponge bob grumpy dudes replied it was a fantastic sub op idea. That feat path and tactics breakdown of yours just re lit the spark! Hey maybe go revive my thread yesterday...not sure if it's under advice or general but I think it's here in advice.

If u mean the one u started Friday i just posted my build. The vibe though i got from it was that its doable to an extent and i agree with them. The character i made is great but cant solo. Well it can but not effectively and not for long lol. Though i did at one point but thats because none of my allies bothered with stealth and they all took the front door of a keep that they stormed and i took the back by my self. That was fun especially since i was able to take out over 1/2 the entire keep by my self because they were making so much noise i got the jump on every1 i took on heading towards them.
