So I'm trying to see what was forshadowed by the 'Larz workaholic' joke, and I can't find it. Did I miss something?
Meanwhile, I'm considering replacing and/or dovetailing this with a joke about how she's surprised to see Benny Harker out of bed so early considering how late he had the mill running last night.
Thoughts?

It's nothing more than one of several attempts I made in the adventure to make it feel like Sandpoint is populated by a lot of people who know each other.
It's fine and well to use things to foreshadow events, but don't lose sight of how it's equally important to present Sandpoint as a living, vibrant community and that its citizens have lives outside of being NPCs.

As events unfold in the Skinsaw Murders, greedy townsfolk begin to be targeted for feeding the runewell of greed.
I intentionally introduced my PCs to Banny Harker early on in the adventure and made sure they were aware of all the noise grinding out from the sawmill past dusk. This way, on their own, they can start to see that just greedy folks are being targeted. This becomes more apparent once they head to Magnimar and get details of the professions of the folks being murdered there.
You can take someone like Larz (who honestly I imagine as just being a hard working sort, and not really working hard for material wealth - I suppose the stereotype of a hard-working tanner) and embellish his greed if you want.
Ultimately, I'd morph whichever merchants the PCs seem to interact with the most and identify one as greedy SOB, so you can make them a target of the Skinsaw murders when the time comes.
