Should my Action Hero go with Brawler, or Barbarian?

Advice

Hi. So, for a game, I'm making a guy that was basically a WW2 War Hero who was on the run from the Nazis, took a right turn at Albuquerque and ended up in the Pathfinder world. I had a lot of fun writing his backstory, but one thing I want is for him to basically be tougher than nails. I mean, I want him to take an almost Diehard level of punishment before uppercutting you through the moon, or blasting you down with his revolver. And the most I'm gonna get for him armor-wise is maybe 'padded' armor. So, which do you recommend? And, which do you think would mix with the Gunslinger class?

If you have a different idea, lay it on me. But picking a different character, getting him armor, or things of that nature, probably aren't going to be that helpful.

Thank you for your time, true believers. 'Nuff said.

Personally, I'm leaning Brawler, even though that Rage would be tasty from a thematic standpoint.

Invulnerable Rgaer archetype!

Yeah, I was eyeing that myself.

I'd say Brawler, it mixes much better with the gunslinger class than barbarians can and the extra combat feats allow you to truly customize him into the ultimate action hero.

Yeah, all those feats -are- useful. How many feats are there besides Toughness, that let you just take damage like crazy?

While I love the brawler, the urban barbarian might be a better option. When that archetype rages, it can boost either strength or dexterity (con is an option too, but not important for this discussion)

Only one ability score gets boosted, but you can still use all of your skills and you do not lose AC. You can choose to boost two ability scores, but you must split your morale bonus between them.

This might be good thematically too. Soldiers that act like a fantasy barbarian in modern warfare tend to have short military careers.

I would suggest invulnerable rager/urban barbarian. Want to get mad and punch things? RAGE! Want to shoot your gun? Controlled rage for extra dex.
Check out dragon totem as well. Up to 6 extra DR and you can get gernade resistance (fire resist and good amounts of it).
Raging vitality will grant you more hps.
Check out deathless innitiate, would need racial heratige: orc and endurance/diehard but you can get stronger when next to death. With a good con score, rage and DR you could live quite deep in the negatives.
Orcs can get some good survival feats, tenacious survivor, resiliant brute, ferocious tenacity ect
Grave risen achievement feat gives you a 'second wind' when you die, goes good with tenacious survivor.
Take heart of the wilderness race trait

Just remember to take things to up your damage as well!
There was no armor involved in the making of this post.

Nother few ideas.
As long as you get 5 levels of gunslinger and at least 1 level of barbarian you can get the furious finish feat that deals maximum damage with your revolver shot. Don't forget to take a large sized revolver as well!

If you go the deathless inniate route, a level in unbreakable fighter can be good.
You could also just go straight barbarian and hold a gun, no gunslinger levels.
Sorry post is messy and has no links, I'm on my tablet and will do a better job when I get home.

Those are some great ideas, though I'm not sure this guy would have an Orc heritage.

Am I actually able to mix Urban Barbarian and Invulnerable Rager? I wasn't sure I was...

Yes you can as they replace different things.
You could always call it Racial Heratige: Badass :D

There's an idea. I'll ask the DM about it, ha ha.

Man, I can already tell that the life of a gunslinger is an expensive one. I'm so lucky the DM gave us all a great deal of gold to start things off with. I mean, seriously.
