So, one of the things a Fighter can do, is he can pick a "weapon group" that he does more damage in. So for example, if he wants to be a brawler, he can pick the "close weapon" group and get a bonus when using unarmed attacks, or bayonets, or some of those special gauntlet weapons, etc. But there are also weapons in there that are on the exotic weapon list. And weapons that specifically let you know that you need to use a feat specifically to be able to use them.
My question is, if I'm a Fighter, and I pick a weapon group, can I use all weapons in that weapon group without penalty? Or do I still need to use feats on them? Can I use "Dan's Bong" if I take the close weapon group, even though I never put a feat into 'exotic weapon proficiency(Dan's Bong)'?
Also, second question: If I pick a weapon group, does that mean I now can't use weapons in other groups? If I become a brawler, do I get minuses when using a longsword, for example?

Weapon Training, the class feature that works with the weapon groups, does -not- provide proficiency. If you do not have proficiency with a weapon in a group you have chosen, you would get the weapon training bonus, but also the non-proficiency penalty.
You do not get any penalties for choosing a weapon group with Weapon Training, or for not choosing a group.
Weapon Training (Ex): Starting at 5th level, a fighter can select one group of weapons, as noted below. Whenever he attacks with a weapon from this group, he gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls.Every four levels thereafter (9th, 13th, and 17th), a fighter becomes further trained in another group of weapons. He gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls when using a weapon from this group. In addition, the bonuses granted by previous weapon groups increase by +1 each. For example, when a fighter reaches 9th level, he receives a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with one weapon group and a +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls with the weapon group selected at 5th level. Bonuses granted from overlapping groups do not stack. Take the highest bonus granted for a weapon if it resides in two or more groups.
A fighter also adds this bonus to any combat maneuver checks made with weapons from this group. This bonus also applies to the fighter's Combat Maneuver Defense when defending against disarm and sunder attempts made against weapons from this group.
Weapon groups are defined as follows (GMs may add other weapons to these groups, or add entirely new groups):
Axes: battleaxe, dwarven waraxe, greataxe, handaxe, heavy pick, light pick, orc double axe, and throwing axe.
Blades, Heavy: bastard sword, elven curve blade, falchion, greatsword, longsword, scimitar, scythe, and two-bladed sword.

Crossbows: hand crossbow, heavy crossbow, light crossbow, heavy repeating crossbow, and light repeating crossbow.
Double: dire flail, dwarven urgrosh, gnome hooked hammer, orc double axe, quarterstaff, and two-bladed sword.
Flails: dire flail, flail, heavy flail, morningstar, nunchaku, spiked chain, and whip.
Hammers: club, greatclub, heavy mace, light hammer, light mace, and warhammer.

Weapon Training does not eliminate the need for proficiency, it just gives you a bonus. If you dont have profficiency with elven curveblades, you still take the -4 regardless of weapon training.
Also no, you dont gain a penalty to other weapons, you just dont gain the bonus. And in fact from weapon training 2 on, you increase more then one weapon group.
