Can Disintegrate Crit?

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

On the one hand, it is a ray spell, so it requires an attack roll.
On the other hand, there is a save attached.

Would the automatic damage-on-a-fail 5d6 be crit worthy?

Yes it can crit, but keep in mind that spells have a critical threat of 20 and a x2 multiplier.
On the second question, i think so.

All of it should critical - the save just determines how many dice of damage a non-critical hit delivers. So, yes, potentially, a disintegrate can dish out 80d6 damage (10d6 on a successful save).

Chemlak has it right.

Now imagine a Magus with his Keen Scimitar throwing out Spellstrike Disintegrates (can do so using the Close Range arcana). Only problem is the Save....

I wouldn't call that save a "problem"... more of a feature. Besides, there are plenty of ways to boost spell DC if you really care.

Eg spell focus, and greater spell focus and... Uh... *shrug*

Make it a spell-storing keen scimitar and do it twice on a single hit. :P

Spell-Storing is only up to 3rd level

Many Traits, Heighten spell, and a few Feats, not to mention spells that increase your casting stat, items. Plenty of ways to do it.
