Advice for naming a former slave character from Nidal / Cheliax

Grand Lodge

Hey folks,

So I'm stoked to be playing an upcoming game, and I'm planning on playing a half-orc Sanctified Rogue of Desna who escaped from the clutches of slavery in Nidal, and joined up with the Whispered Song (underground revolutionary group in Nidal). So the question is, does anybody know have slaves are tracked in Nidal/Cheliax? I'd like to name him something to the effect of "prisoner number 12-34C" or something like that. Was just wandering if this has ever been mentioned in a Pathfinder Tales novel or AP that I haven't gotten to read yet. Thanks for any feedback.

Give him a nick name. His slave name or number represents where he is from, not who he is. If he has had any chane to test his mettle, then I am sure someone has given him a nickname.

I'd say since all he really knows is Cheliax and Nidal (unless he came from somewhere else) his personal name should be something from that region. Assuming he's from Half-Orc parents, I'd even go so far as something with a last name or surname that fits with the region. Latin-like also would be a plus for flavor.
Example: Marius Helcaste.

For Nidal I would use demeaning names, like Worm, Slug ...
maybe with an adjective as well such as Gray Slug, Rot Worm, etc.

If you watched the recent episode of Game of Thrones, the slave-soldiers had all been given names like that.

His master(s) could name him whatever they wished. As far as last names go, maybe there's a policy slaves take on the last name of the month they were born or area they were born. So something like Marius Lamashan to represent a slave given a standardized Chelaxian first name with his last being so because he was born/bought in October. Or Marius Blood because he was an orphan in Westcrown and all Westcrown orphans/Bastards get Blood as their last name.

More likely he'd just be given some name such as Gutter Rat, Bloody Pig, or some other demeaning name to represent his vermin status in the eyes of the his superiors.

The point of names like these are to convey what you are not who you are.

Have fun with it and think of something memorable.

Omega. In a wolf pack it is the lowest grunt. In Biblicism "I am alpha and omega. the beginning and the end." The androgynous alien on Marilyn Manson's concept album, The Mechanical Animals, is given that name.
I am personally using it for a slave. To give him a word he can also be proud of. "It ends with lowest amongst us."

Nidal is Zon-Kuthon...

all of these, courtesy of Google translate, mean 'Pain Sponge"

1) Schmerzen Schwamm (German)
2) Dolore Spongiam (Latin)
3) Kipu Sienellä (Finnish)
4) esponja dolor (catalan/spanish)
5) sāpes sūklis (Latvian)
