Threads Marked 'Answered in FAQ' that aren't, and the supposed 'new approach to FAQ / Errata'

That link isn't working for me.

But if you really can't find an answer to the question in the available FAQs, post the question again and get people to FAQ it. (I don't have any way of tracking which things were in which category you describe in your post).

Adding such a thing doesn't really "glut up" the FAQ. We'll sometimes see a question pop up that's been answered, but it's just one click for us to mark it as "answered in FAQ" once we've verified that it is actually answered.

I've updated the link. I had a premonition that I should've hit Preview on that post, but ended up not. Funny how that works.

The specific issue I'm having is that it might be close enough to another FAQ entry to extrapolate an answer based on the flag, but dealing in absolutes is a bit nicer when helping people out.

Yar!

One of my posts regarding the spell Featherfall and Concentration checks to cast while falling was marked as "Answered in the FAQ", yet I could not find any FAQ entry relating to it.

(I was almost expecting a "Staff Reply: no response required" for that one, as the RAW seems clear (to me) that you do need to make a concentration check to cast Featherfall if you cast it while falling, even though most people do not do that in their home games)

This is the url of the post in question:

edit: I love that random space that gets added to urls when put into message bodies. Hope it doesn't mess anyone up. Doesn't seem to affect my ability to go to it though.

Ooh, this is awesome. Now I just need to figure out what an RSS feed is and how to get fed by it...

An RSS feed ("Rich Site Summary") is basically a list of any updates to a specific site. For example, an RSS feed for a news site would update every time there is a new article posted, and the RSS feed for a user on Paizo.com would update every time that user makes a new post.

You follow RSS feeds with an RSS reader. An RSS reader is basically software that keeps track of RSS feeds you put into it and alerts you if any of them are updated.

Might I recommend Feedly?

Alternately, you keep the page on posts of the PDT user open and refresh it everyday (it is what I do).

I just love this new way of answering FAQs and wishes to convey my deepest thanks to the person who thought of it.

NB : I was also one of the frustrated by the " not really Answered in FAQ" thing ;-)

This is awesome. Thanks, Ansel, for pointing it out!

Scarab Sages

What about posts that are marked as "answered in errata," but there is no answer in the errata? Again, is it too much to ask that if it's going to be answered in errata, that there's a link to the errata it's answered in... or barring that, that it also be answered in the thread?

I'll repeat what I said above:

If you really can't find an answer to the question in the available FAQs [or errata, in this case], post the question again and get people to FAQ it.

I would not have even known to look for this, had you not posted in this thread. Perhaps this should be a more prominent link on the Help/FAQ page as well?

Here is another one, just to add to Quandary's list for his/her compilation:

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2o8jl?Improved-TwoWeapon-Feint

Question is: should Improved Two Weapon Feint have Two Weapon Feint as a prerequisite?

The concisely worded OP is marked "answered in the FAQ" but I just this minute double checked the Ultimate Combat FAQ and it is not there. There is not an author answer in the thread. There is an answer in a different thread, but it's not clear it's from an author/official contributor, and is hard to find.

Fine, but FWIW, this is contradictory to to the general advice/practice on this board that if a thread has already been created on a subject, that we are expected and encouraged to post to that thread rather than create a new one. Thus many people who don't read this particular thread may not realize that is what they are expected to do.

Now that I am back from GenCon and my post-GC road trip, I mean to post some meta-FAQs about how to best use the FAQ system.

It terms of how the FAQ flagging works, it doesn't matter if people create a new thread and flag it or if they go back to the original thread, make a new comment, and flag that—it all goes to the same place.

Thanks for all of your hard work answering people's questions, Sean!

Awesome, that will be helpful.

Good to know. Thanks for clearing that up.
