Actually, nothing in the description shows this to be the case. In fact, there's not even anything that suggests the ring won't work for men. As for the
If it weren't for the fact I suspect it'll be over a year before my tabletop group reaches this point, I'd convince one of my players to roleplay that character for the inevitable teary-eyed screaming match between her and the Ring's current possessor rather than end up in a schizophrenic argument with myself while the players watch. I can't pull off a Andy Serkis, sadly enough. =^-^=

Yeah, Marislova turned out to be quite the sympathetic character and wound up helping to humanize Jadrenka that much more.
Interesting thread here, since I haven't read the adventure yet. When do you think we'll get the "Why is transgenderism a theme in Maiden, Mother Crone?" thread? ;)
I honestly expected posts about uncomfortable aspects of centaur romance to be spinning out of this book to be joining that other thread. ;)

It didn't seem to be expressed as dialogue, but does she explain her origins (or give cause to)?
As I prefer reading the hard copy (or soft?), and gave the pdf a skim, was just wondering as it'd be an interesting exposition to my players.
As far as bringing it into play naturally:
It could be potentially upsetting, but after reading Hypothetical Lizard it seems one of the absolute worst things one of the hags could threaten her with(in any possiible meetings) would be to turn her back to her original form, all the while throwing taunts meant to undermine her identity.(using only male pronouns to refer to her, promising to "restore" her to what she "really" is, etc.)
Considering how painful it can be for folks to work out and accept their identities, attacking that is one of the most cruel things one can do.
It would reveal some information and probably lead to the full story being told. And it could also make Jadrenka a bit more sympathetic, for all her faults, if it's shown that she was accepting and supportive of Marislova's transition, in contrast to the hags.

Ah...makes sense. Guess it seems kinda obvious :V
Just didn't know how much contact she had with the rest of the complex, aside from the nymph (perhaps Krysjana put ideas in Marislova's head about Jadrenka allowed the tranisiton as a 'joke' on her).

I kind-of like that Marislova's backstory isn't really provided with any reason to be brought up in the present. It's a bit refreshing to see a trans character with a personality that doesn't take a backseat to their gender. I tend to feel that too many trans characters have no real personality beyond 'they are trans', so it's nice to see that Paizo made her a relatively realistic, ordinary person rather than a spectacle.
...Well, ordinary aside from all the magic powers and the Baba Yaga stuff going on around her. :P

Actually, when you think of it... this is true for many characters in RoW. I get the feeling the GM is provided backstory for each one should the GM decide to expand upon it. For instance, the fighter/sorcerer from an earlier module who learned of the fate of her draconic ancestor at the hands of those she works for.
While I already have two NPCs in my group and honestly don't need more... Marislova is someone I'd be tempted to have join my group. And who knows - by the time the PCs reach this far, there could be fatalities among the PCs or NPCs. It would be nice to allow Marislova a chance to flourish away from her prison. And having her become the newest Companion for this wayward band of Timelords has a certain appeal. ^^;;

The ring of Artrosa is completely unrelated to Maroslan's transformation into Marislova. Jadrenka possesses the ring; Maroslan willingly chose to become Marislova using the magic of Artrosa itself, a place imbued with powerful feminine energies.
I can understand why this is left vague but, as someone who DMs for GLBT players, I know they're going to want to know the mechanism for the transformation if I get around to running this adventure. In a system where magic is so codified, it's a little frustrating that this one detail is so obfuscated. Sure, I can make it up myself but the point of buying adventures is that I don't have to. -.-
Marislova's a great NPC, though, I love her inclusion in this.
